In the last few years, SUVs have experienced a sudden boom in popularity. With more people staying home and expanding their families, it seems everyone is in the market for the all-in-one, Sport Utility Vehicles. With this upward trend, almost every manufacturer under the sun has released its own SUV model. Lately, this group notably encompasses supercar and luxury car manufacturers.
Lamborghini is a brand that has always been as turbulent and bold as its founder, with its cars looking and driving as aggressively as the bull that is brandished on every one of its models. Though it looks like an SUV, the 2022 Lamborghini Urus is actually faster than many sports cars on the market. After all, it was manufactured by one of the greatest brands to ever grace the street or the track.
On the other hand, the British brand Aston Martin has been at the forefront of comfort and luxury for decades. Save for some outlandish concepts and ideas, the brand is known for its reliable and extremely lavish models. One of these models is the 2022 Aston Martin DBX. The big question in the heads of enthusiasts of the familial kind is "which of these 2022 SUVs is better?" Well, let's figure it out together.
7 Competitive Price
With the DBX costing around $190,000 and the Urus ranging from $225,000 to a quarter of a million dollars, both cars will make quite the dent in the family's savings. Interestingly enough, even at a quarter of a million dollars, the Urus is still the cheapest Lamborghini on the market.
Most of the price variance in the Urus stems from the aesthetic packages available for the exterior and the interior, consisting of pearlescent and matte body types and color schemes. On the other hand, the standard DBX comes at a similar price no matter what kind of customizations consumers decide to add to the machine. In this case, customers looking to find a more stable price are much safer going with the DBX.
6 The Urus' Engine Has the Edge
Though both cars sport impressive 4.0L V8 engines, the DBX's 542 hp fails to hold up against the Urus' monstrous 641 hp. The Urus has in fact been deemed the fastest SUV ever tested by certain testing agencies.
It can reportedly climb to 60 mph from a standstill in a mind-boggling 3.2 seconds. However, do not discount the Aston Martin too quickly as the DBX's cousin, the 707, could stack up well against the Urus.
5 The Urus Handles Better
Breaking and handling in the Urus are better thanks to its AWD capabilities that are always engaged as opposed to DBX's RWD with a limited AWD engagement system. This engagement system is supposed to kick in when the computer of the vehicle detects a fluctuation in the traction of the vehicle and works in conjunction with a limited-slip differential in the rear wheels.
This system seems overly complicated and, virtually achieves the same result as the Urus' AWD, which never disengages in the first place.
4 The DBX Has The Better Fuel-Efficiency
With a beastly engine powering its performance, the Urus understandably sacrifices a lot of fuel economy. The DBX (13 city/18 highway) has a slight edge over Lamborghini's SUV (12 city/17 highway).
Though a single gallon may seem punitive to the naked eye, years of owning and operating the DBX can end up saving significant amounts on gas costs. Although if one is dishing out $200,000 on an SUV, money is probably the least of their worries.
3 Urus' Superior Body
A great part of dishing out on a car is ensuring that other people know you dished out. While the DBX looks much more like a typical SUV that one might see on the road, the URUS is distinctly a Lamborghini with its signature wide-body design and pronounced body lines.
The DBX offers a variety of colors in multiple shades of Blue, Green, Red, White, etc., but where it fails, and the Urus succeeds, is the availability of more vibrant body colors. In this way, the Lamborghini, true to its sports car origins, looks much cooler and stands out in any crowd.
2 The DBX Provides The Comfort Factor
While the URUS sports a much more performance-based/sport interior, the DBX's leather stitched seats, three-zone climate control, and customizable lighting put it safely ahead of its competition. The Urus, with its jet-inspired interior, is mainly focused on getting its occupants where they're going fast, often leaving many comfort elements behind as afterthoughts.
On the other hand, it seems Aston Martin has knocked the competition out of the park with its comfort elements that make it essentially a fancy hotel room on wheels.
1 Urus Has the Better Tech
The Urus sports a dual-screen infotainment system that has proven difficult to handle in testing. On the other hand, the DBX's infotainment system completely lacks a touch screen option, which seems extremely outdated next to any one of its competitors.
Though the DBX processes a wireless charging station and other high-tech capabilities, a 2022 model lacking a touch screen is incredibly strange and out of place. The Urus' double screened system may seem complicated to operate at first, but it seems, in this case, one in the bush is not worth two in the hand.
