Audi has unveiled the 2022 A8 lineup, and it features fewer trim levels and engine choices. The price of the base A8 has changed little from last year, but the range-topping S8 sees a significant price reduction.

Fewer Engine Choices Are Carryovers From Last Year

Audi has trimmed down the A8 lineup for the 2022 model year. The A8 L 55 maintains its position as the entry-level model, but the mid-level A8 60 is no longer available. The S8 remains at the top of the A8 series.

There is also a consolidation in engines as well. Gone are the PHEV and lesser-powered V8 featured in the discontinued A8 60. The A8 L 55 soldiers on with a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine good for 335 horsepower. The engine in the S8 is also unchanged from last year. It is a 4.0-liter two-turbo V8 producing 563 horsepower.

Improvements To Interior And Exterior

The 2022 A8 has a redesigned front end with LED headlights and a revised grille that replaces the horizontal slats with an angular pattern. The S8 is distinguishable by an even wider front grille. Audi's S-Line package is now standard on the A8.

The rear of the A8 includes OLED taillights linked by an LED light strip and revised rear diffuser. The S8 sports a unique set of four exhaust pipes.

There is an array of new exterior color choices including Firmament Blue, Manhattan Gray, Metallic District Green and Ultra Blue. All color choices are available with an optional Black Optic package that adorns the exterior with more black trim.

The A8 rides on standard five-spoke 19-inch rims with all-season tires. The S8 comes with a set of five-double-spoke 20-inch rims on summer tires.

Interior enhancements include the availability of Dynamica microfiber to the headliner, door, and interior trim.The S8's interior now has some features that are almost de rigueur for the segment, including massage seats with lumbar support.

There is also an optional rear comfort package priced at $5,900. This package comes with a full-length center console, fold out wing tables and a digital remote to control lighting and seating preferences. Inclusion of this package reduces seating the capacity to four.

As for pricing, the 2022 Audi A8 starts at $86,595. That is only $50 more than last year. The S8 has a base MSRP of $117,995, which marks a $14,250 reduction from the 2021 price.
