To give the market a breath of fresh air, BMW introduced the M240i, which happens to be a sportier version of the 2 Series Coupe. The 'M' treatment to the vehicle has given it a much-needed sportiness over the relatively tame 2 Series. As the world slowly moves towards electrification of all cars, the trend of sports cars and coupes is gradually getting out of the limelight. Mass-market production of SUVs has taken over the world as seven out of every 10 cars sold globally is an SUV. Sports cars are rarely seen on the streets, except a supercar or hypercar made to shatter speed records or built-in limited production numbers. So, BMW’s M240i, which has the amenities of a classic sports car, is a refresher in the motoring world.

The BMW M240i’s stunning proportion sets it apart from competitors. The compact car was with the Golden Ratio in mind which is the major contributing factor to the spot-on styling. Furthermore, its turbocharged engine puts up decent power figures, and the room on the inside is relatively generous.

BMW was pleased to announce this particular vehicle does not get an obnoxiously large front grille seen on some other BMW models. The front grille happens to be a decent size and goes well with the vehicle's overall proportions. All-LED headlamps feature a single projector, and the Halo-shaped DRL, which is now a neatly integrated BMW signature design element. The front bumper of the vehicle looks very aggressive and what catches the eye is the triangular-shaped intakes on either end of the bumper, help improve cooling the engine bay. The vehicle gets 19-inch wheels as standard and blue brake calipers towards the side. The car has a strong shoulder line which extends to the rear, and the inclusion of side skirts gives the vehicle a very low stance.

The two-door coupe design of the M240i looks stunning, and it is a reminiscence of classic sports cars. At the back, there happens to be a subtle boot spoiler that is neatly integrated, and even the tail lights of the vehicle resemble the design of the headlamps upfront. Lower down on the rear bumper, are two trapezium-shaped exhaust tips on either side; in between them lies the functional diffuser. Overall the vehicle has fantastic proportions and looks good when viewed from any angle.

If one is familiar with the BMW nomenclature, it is evident that when BMW makes an M-specific car, it is undoubtedly performance-oriented. The new 2022 M240i is very close to the previous generation M2, which defined a whole different level of compact sports car performance. M240i uses a 3-liter turbocharged inline-6 engine that produces an output of 380 HP, which happens to be an increase of 47 HP over the last generation. The engine is mated to a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission that sends the power to all four wheels because it uses the latest generation BMW xDrive system. The vehicle's power delivery is mostly rear-wheel drive-based, and the power goes to the front wheels only when the traction control detects a loss of grip. Further, the M240i can do the zero to 60 mph sprint in just 3.5 seconds flat and quickly attains a top speed of 155 mph. This is one of the most affordable sports cars and can undoubtedly conquer the daily driver segment. The M240i can deliver a fuel economy of 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.

Being a two-door sports car, the M240i offers limited room for its occupants. Its interior’s highlight happens to be the 10.3-inch central infotainment touch screen which houses navigation and multimedia functions. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are also offered as standard. Lower trims get analog gauges, whereas the higher trims of the vehicle provide a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. A heads-up display is available to show the driver the rev-counter, navigation, and speed. Other notable inclusions to the interior happened to be ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, and well-crafted full-leather seats. The vehicle also features rear seats, but they may not be the most comfortable. They are best left for kids or cargo as it can get cramped. The overall cabin space has a very dark theme as most of the materials are black with a few accents of red to give a sporty appeal.

A heart-pounding machine that has pushed the limits of performance even further, the 2022 BMW M240i’s stunning proportions and sharp design language sets it a whole class apart.
