The 2022 Jaguar XF upholds the brand's heritage as the manufacturer's sole sedan offering. Since 2007, the Jaguar XF has been the only consistent mainstay in Jaguar's tumultuous portfolio. In 2015, the car received a complete redesign. The XF received a significant overhaul going into the 2021 model year, but supply issues and production delays led to only a few refreshed 2021 models making it to U.S. shores.

The Jaguar XF is a compelling sedan in a crowded market with upgraded technology, new trims, and refreshed interiors. But does it still compete with long-term competitors such as the BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class? While it does come with caveats, there is a certain allure to British luxury that just cannot be replicated.

For 2022 the Jaguar XF's engine lineup has been slimmed down to a single offering with two variants. Six-cylinder and diesel variants have been dropped in favor of a turbocharged four-cylinder. The base XF P250 features 246 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque powering the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The P250SE features the same performance numbers and adds standard all-wheel-drive. The XF R-Dynamic P300 is a performance-oriented variant. All-wheel-drive is standard, and power is taken up to 296 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Still, substantially less than past iterations, though it is unlikely consumers will see more powerful powertrains in the future as Jaguar has confirmed they have electric sedans in the works that will likely take the place of the XF in the future.

The Jaguar XF has always been a world-class touring sedan. The car features aluminum architecture, meaning it is much lighter than its size may suggest, contributing to a scant 0-60 sprint of 0-60 in 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 149 mph. The R-Dynamic P300 trim expectedly brings the 0-60 time down to just 5.5 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph. Despite Jaguar aiming the XF's focus on comfort for 2022 rather than performance, the suspension is still superb. The standard suspension departs from traditional sports sedan harshness in favor of a more comfortable ride that consumers might expect from Volvo.

Cornering prowess is still entirely in effect as the XF confidently takes sharp bends at any speed. An adaptive suspension package further adds to the Jaguar's driving refinement. Adaptive drive modes allow the driver to toggle between firm and comfortable suspension settings. The package also includes red Jaguar-branded brake calipers, and a rear mounted trunk spoiler. The fuel economy in the XF is up with 22 MPG city, 30 MPG highway, and 25 MPG in mixed driving.

The interior of the redesigned Jaguar XF is entirely new and beautifully transformed. At the center of the redesigned interior is the 11.4-inch Pivi Pro infotainment center. The screen features a slight curvature, allowing the driver's finger to glide off of it quickly. The system also features over-the-air updating, meaning it will only get better over time.

Twin 5G modems mean the system can promptly handle multiple tasks at the same time. The system also supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, meaning consumers can seamlessly integrate their smartphones into the system. A 12-speaker sound system by Meridian ensures crisp quality with any music. Active noise cancellation also monitors exterior sound with opposite phase sound waves that keep the XF cabin incomparably quiet. Tactile controls for climate control are sensible, something that is almost extinct in this class of automobiles.

The rest of the Jaguar XF's interior is decidedly premium. The consumer can choose from a host of fine complete leather interiors and trims. Consumers can choose between genuine wood veneer or aluminum finishes. Drivers retreated to a standard intelligent digital gauge cluster and a standard head-up display. In the center console, consumers will find a typical wireless phone charger. The self-presenting rotary dial has been replaced with a more traditional gear shifter. A push-button start button and volume control knob are sensibly positioned.

Moving above is an intelligent true-sight review mirror that shows a digital image from a camera located at the rear. A smart panoramic sunroof features a sensor that allows it to be controlled by gesture. A wave of the hand towards the rear can automatically open the large sunroof with ease, though traditional switches are also present.
