Kia America released pricing details for its all-new EV6 battery electric vehicle (BEV) that will begin hitting the streets in the coming weeks. With a starting price of $40,900, the EV6 seeks to take on competitors like the Volkswagen ID.4 and Ford Mustang Mach-E. It's also another entry that aims to compete against Tesla's dominance in the EV segment. This addition to the Kia lineup is the brand's first purpose-built BEV and shares the modular E-GMP platform with its corporate cousin, the Hyundai Ioniq 5.

The Light's configuration includes a 58 kWh battery paired with a 168kW rear motor and promises 167 horsepower and a 232-mile range. RWD-equipped Wind and GT-Line models get a 77.4 kWh battery with 225 horsepower and a model-topping 310-mile range. In AWD form, the Wind and GT-Line incorporate the same 77.4 kWh battery but get a 165 kW rear motor and 74kw front motor combo. That works out to 320 horsepower, 440 lb-ft of torque, and 274 miles of range. Its 4.6-second time for a 0-60 mph run is faster than a Porsche Cayenne Coupe, says Kia. The company has been teasing a 576-horsepower EV6 GT later in 2022, but Kia hasn't provided pricing or a firm availability date.

Kia is touting the EV6's advanced charging capabilities with both 400-volt and 800-volt DC fast charging. Via the system's 350-kW charging connector, 70 miles of range will take less than five minutes. The company also claims that an 800-volt DC fast charge can deliver 210 miles of power in 18 minutes. Mid-tier and higher models will come standard with an onboard generator that can power tools and electronic gear as well as provide Level 1 charging for another EV.
