Specs And Updates For The 2022 Mazda CX-5

Nothing much has changed regarding the power of the 2022 Mazda CX-5. The new model will also come with two engine options: a standard four-cylinder engine with six-speed automatic transmission and 187 hp and an optional turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 250 hp.

Thanks to these specs, the CX-5 remains stable and enjoyable to drive, delivering smooth and precise shifts at all times. Moreover, all the new models will now come with all-wheel drive instead of limiting front-wheel drive to ensure a secure grip and easy handling on different terrains.

We assume things to remain the same regarding safety and reliability. Considering the 2021 Mazda CX-5 was a top safety pick of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), we expect nothing less from the 2022 model. Mazda announced an entire pack of new safety features, including the Mi-Drive drive mode selection to allow drivers to select the preferable drive mode within a switch of a button.

The updated CX-5 will also have the additional Cruising and Traffic Support (CTS) feature to assist drivers with acceleration, braking, and steering. All in all, it sounds Mazda invested some time and effort to make the new CX-5 safer and easier to handle in 2022. We'll talk about the exterior and interior updates further below.

Trims And Features

There's more great news for Mazda fans. This winter, the new 2022 CX-5 will come in five different trims: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, Turbo, and Turbo Signature. Although the prices are yet to be revealed, the standard model should start under $30,000.

All starting models should come with an all-wheel drive, six-speed automatic transmission, 17-inch alloy wheels, and additional features such as a central display and four speakers. Basic driver-assistance features will count lane-departure warning, forward collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and blindspot monitoring.

Now, except these five trims will differ in some exterior and interior design details, they'll also offer different features. For instance, Turbo Signature will cost drivers a couple of thousand dollars more to come with silver-finished wheels, Nappa leather, ambient interior lighting, parking sensors, navigation system, and more.

We'll have to wait and see how these trims compare one to another in terms of performance and practicality to give the final verdict on the prices. For now, it looks like Mazda offers all the necessities to everyone and further charges for the luxurious features we would all love to have on daily drives.

Exterior And Interior Novelties

First thing first, the exterior. One truly has to put the 2021 and 2022 CX-5 close one to another to spot the differences. Upon a more detailed inspection, however, one notes 2022 CX-5 has eye-catching updates such as rectangular LEDs at the front and rear and aluminum alloy wheels. The front mesh grille also gets a three-dimensional appearance for a more urban look. In summary, nothing groundbreaking but definitely even more attractive.

In terms of overall length, width, and height, all remain pretty much the same compared to 2021. Inside, the 31 cubic feet of cargo space will be untouched, but some other features will get updated. Mazda will improve seat comfort on all models and offer super-soft materials in higher trims.

Much like the previous model, the new standard CX-5 will come with a 10.3-inch display, voice-controlled operations, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and remote vehicle functions. The Mazda Connected services allow for seamless Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. As we mentioned above, for some extra cash, drivers will be able to get some additional features such as a navigation system, premium audio system, 360-degree camera, and more.

Finally, we think no matter which trims drivers choose in 2022, the CX-5 will still provide enjoyable drives and a comfortable experience. The upcoming models are set to be updated for handling, exterior styling, and comfort. Unfortunately, the small cargo capacity remains unchanged, but we argue this is a distinguishable feature of the Mazda CX-5 in general. Considering this is a compact and capable crossover SUV, it's hard to ask for more.
