The 2022 Monaco Grand Prix was nothing short of a wild ride. After a delayed start due to rain, the Monaco GP proved to be a tricky race for the drivers. And, without a further-a-do, here are the highlights of one of the oldest races on the Formula 1 calendar.Normally, the Monaco GP would have the drivers racing for 77 laps around the street circuit. However, the (objectively) overly cautious calls from the FIA due to rain caused the race to finish early.Related: The Best Classic Cars Go Racing At The Monaco Grand Prix Historique

Sergio Perez Wins The Monaco Grand Prix

Thanks to an incredible strategy from Oracle Red Bull Racing, Sergio Perez became the first Mexican driver to win the Monaco Grand Prix. Carlos Sainz followed Sergio Perez in 2nd place, and Max Verstappen wrapped up the top 3.

Mick Schumacher Suffers Major Crash

The wet conditions of the race created some less-than-ideal conditions. Haas driver, Mick Schumacher, was on the receiving end of these conditions, and he suffered a major crash in which his car split in half after colliding with the barriers. Astonishingly, he walked away from his Haas without assistance.

Ferrari's Pit Stop Mistake

Carlos Sainz made the call early on that he was going to make his first pit stop on regular racing slicks tires instead of intermediates, and when Ferrari called Sainz in to pit, they did just that. However, they also decided to call Charles Leclerc in, and the moment he drove into the pit lane, Ferrari instructed him to stay out, but that call arrived too late as Leclerc was already in the pit lane. The result of this was not only Leclerc losing time to the Red Bulls, but also losing the race overall. He went from 1st place to 4th place.

Not only did he manage to hold up Lewis Hamilton for (essentially) the entire race, but he also managed to hold up Esteban Ocon and Valtteri Bottas behind him. Overall, Alonso managed to create a 30+ second gap between him and Lando Norris ahead of him.
