With the new seventh-generation (S650) Mustang still months away, now is an excellent time to check out a current version of Ford's legendary model. That's the thinking behind a new video from the YouTube channel Bros Fourr Speed, as presenter Brian walks viewers through the details of a standout 2022 muscle car, a Ford Mustang Mach 1 Premium in Race Red.

This car is so good that Brian even goes on to call it "one of the best Mustangs that Ford has ever made".

The Best Of Both Worlds

An external review of this gleaming Mach 1 reinforces classic Mustang elements like the elongated hood, shortened rear deck, and tri-bar taillights. Meanwhile, modern features such as a large front splitter and elaborate rear diffuser keep the car in the 21st century.

Inside, the cabin is also graced with old-school and contemporary touches. A dual-cockpit style dashboard and round gearshift knob hearken back to the early days of the Mustang. At the same time, a customizable digital instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen remind a driver that this isn't their father's Mustang.

Behind the wheel, Brian calls out the Mach 1's smooth power delivery and the crisp shifts of the Tremec six-speed transmission. These characteristics put it far above the GT for handling and drivability. Magnetic ride suspension doesn't hurt, either. Brian feels it's one of the best Mustangs ever built and is well-suited as a daily driver.

But Brian's grins really become evident with every stomp of the gas pedal as he comments the car is a "heck of a lot of fun." This Mustang promises a 0-60 mph time of four seconds and a 168 mph top speed. Ford resurrected the Mach 1 variant for the 2021 model year to replace the discontinued Bullitt edition and slot between the GT and Shelby versions.

While Ford sells the Mustang in seven trims, including the base EcoBoost with a $27,500 starting price, V8 performance begins at around $38,000 for the GT. But, those wanting the extra horsepower bump and improved handling capabilities of the Mach 1 will have to shell out a minimum of $56,300 to join the club.

Check all the boxes; a fully-loaded Mach 1 can easily exceed $70,000. Not including the aftermarket wheels and Corsa exhaust system, the tester in the video prices out at nearly $63,000. The GT offers a more wallet-friendly approach to Mustang V8 power.

Still, the Mach 1's additional output (with 470 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque) and the Tremec 6-speed manual transmission found in the Shelby GT350 make it one of the best Mustangs ever, according to Brian.
