When you think of the fastest accelerating cars in the world, what comes to mind? The likes of Bugatti Chiron SS 300+, all of the wicked Koenigseggs, and course the new wave of all-electric hypercars like the Pininfarina Battista and Rimac Nevera. The point here is that it's supercars and hypercars that seem capable of making it to the list.

Well, Tesla is here to break norms and keep us scratching our heads, because their very simple-looking 2022 Tesla Model X does 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds with the Plaid model, and it is a six-seater SUV! Forget Lamborghini Urus or the Aston Martin DBX 707, this eggshell-like family SUV is what you should be scared of in a drag race! All this is possible with the magic of electric motors, three of them to be precise.

Interestingly the "Plaid" name is becoming as revered as the likes of "Demon" from Dodge and "Exorcist" from Chevy. If this SUV hasn't baffled you yet, then let us put it this way. The Tesla Model X Plaid, a cozy family SUV, shames the McLaren Senna in a 0-60 mph sprint, and makes the Ferrari SF90 Stradale sweat real hard!

The 2022 Tesla Model X Plaid shows us that you don't need Italian drama or English luxury to stand out; doing 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds will do!

2022 Tesla Model X Plaid Is Astonishingly Quick

Tesla claims that the 2022 Model X Plaid does 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds. But that's Tesla being humble! In a real-world test by YouTube channel DragTimes, the unassuming Model X Plaid was able to cross the 60 mph mark in just 2.3 seconds, and the quarter-mile came up in 9.75 seconds.

And it was all in stock form. The only advantage it had was with the track which was of course sticky. Technically that also makes the Model X Plaid SUV as quick as the Bugatti Chiron and even the wheelie-popping Dodge Demon. What has the world come to?!

Model X Plaid Is The World's Most Powerful SUV

All these mad numbers are because of three motors tucked away neatly onto the Model X Plaid's axle. These motors churn out a combined 1,020 hp to all four wheels, drawing power from a chunky 100kWh battery pack. The power unit is surely capable of doing 200+ mph but the Model X Plaid's hardware limits to push things to the absolute limit. But that doesn't matter because you would pray this thing to go slow on public roads!

Also, don't get intimidated by the insane horsepower figures and think that it is made for the racetrack. Tesla, with the magic of clever software, has managed to tame this beast and even return an impressive driving range of up to 333 miles, as per EPA. In other words, the Model X Plaid is more efficient than the likes of Ford Mustang Mach-E, Nissan Ariya, and BMW i4; none of which packs even half of the horsepower as the Tesla!

Tesla Model X Plaid Is The Yoke Of The Town

Tesla has given the Model X Plaid the same interior layout as the Model S Plaid, including the controversial steering yoke. It looks all cool and futuristic but is disappointing when it comes to drivability. Not everything needs to be reinvented and the yoke is a prime example. We understand that it is a neat trick by Tesla to push forth its autonomous ideology, but come on man! Don't start with cars that have over 1,000 horses. Apart from the steering, everything else has been well sorted out.

The Model X Plaid is only offered in a six-seater variant with sports captain seats for the second row as well, to keep occupants tucked in place, if and when, the driver decides to hoon this hyper SUV around. Also, it comes with a standard trailer hitch that can allow you tow up to 5,000 pounds. As for the technology front, the dashboard is redesigned from last year's model and gets a cooler and wider 17-inch landscape touchscreen. There is also a secondary screen for the rear passengers with wireless controller connectivity to play games, of course!

Putting aside all the flaws, credit should be given where it's due. It is Tesla and Elon Musk that helped spearhead the electric revolution that is providing us with interesting cars and even more interesting new automakers. We wouldn't have had the likes of Rivian and Lucid, if not for Tesla.

First, Tesla managed to popularize EVs and help wither away the range anxiety that held back many people from getting electric vehicles in the first place. And now, they are pushing the envelope of performance without sacrificing practicality. We are sure that the Model X Plaid will spawn a new wave of hyper SUVs which are shockingly practical for daily use too.

Only Another Wicked All-Electric SUV Can Topple The Model X Plaid

Currently, the Tesla Model X Plaid enjoys a monopoly because there is no other vehicle that can match its performance and practicality quotient in one. And it will only be another all-electric SUV that will topple the Model X Plaid. And the first teaser of it has already been showcased in the form of the 900 hp Lotus Electre SUV.

Also, let's not forget that Lucid is also planning to bit into this segment with their upcoming Gravity SUV. The silent world of electric cars is sure to make a lot of noise! But until then, it is the 2022 Tesla Model X Plaid that stays on top of this wicked list.
