Luxury carmakers have been entering the world of electrification. For instance, Mercedes-Benz is launching the EQS, its electric version of the S-Class. Other luxury brands are also following through. In fact, Hyundai Motor’s Genesis luxury brand commenced its journey into the world of electrification with the unveiling of its first dedicated EV, the Genesis GV60.

Three GV60 Models On A Dedicated EV Platform

Unlike its conventionally powered siblings, the Genesis GV60 sits on a dedicated EV platform known as Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). It is available in three models, with all sourcing their juices from a 77.4 kWh battery. It is not Genesis's first EV though, as that distinction belongs to the Electrified G80.

Serving as the base, the GV60 Rear-Wheel-Drive model comes installed with an electric motor providing 168 kW (225 hp) of max output and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of peak torque. A GV60 RWD with 19” wheels has an estimated 451 km (280 miles) of range.

The GV60 All-Wheel-Drive, meanwhile, features front and rear motors offering 74 kW (99 hp) and 160 kW (214 hp) of outputs, respectively. The system delivers 234 kW (313 hp) of max output and 605 Nm (446 lb-ft) of peak torque. A GV60 AWD with 19” wheels offers up to 400 km (248 miles) of range.

The more potent GV60 Performance model, on the other hand, employs two motors delivering 160 kW (214 hp) for the front and rear wheels. This translates to 320 kW (429 hp) of total output and 605 Nm (446 lb-ft) of peak torque. It can travel up to 368 km (228 miles) on a single charge.

Interestingly, the GV60 Performance features a Boost Mode that hikes the numbers to 360 kW (482 hp) of output and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of peak torque for 10 seconds. When activated, the GV60 Performance can zoom from nil to 62 mph in just 4.0 seconds.

Providing dynamic support for all GV60 models are elements such as electronic-Limited Slip Differential (e-LSD), Preview Electronic Control Suspension (Preview ECS), MacPherson multi-link front suspension system, a five-multi-link rear suspension system and R-MDPS (Rack-mounted, motor-driven power steering).

An electric crossover utility vehicle (CUV) by design, the new Genesis GV60 has a short overhang and a long wheelbase (2,900 mm). Its front end features Two-Lines lamps, with the Crest Grille moved lower for better cooling function. It is the first Genesis to don a Clamshell Hood with a new wing emblem.

Character lines are absent on the muscular body, which punctuates itself on the rear with a distinctive fixed wing spoiler and Two-Lines rear lamps. The exterior is available in 11 colors.

Inside, the GV60 offers a spacious and comfortable cabin with a floating architecture and unique details, such as the mood-changing Crystal Sphere. The electric CUV has a slim cockpit, a flat floor, and a next-generation infotainment system that connects the cluster and navigation into a panoramic display. The GV60 also comes installed with a 17-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system. The interior is available in five colors.
