The compact R5 will be the first of three entirely electric Alpine models, with the R5 already getting referred to as a ‘mini Ferrari,’ which will highlight the brand’s propelling transformation.

After glancing at the 2023 Alpine R5’s glorious design, you’ll wonder why it hasn’t been cruising on our streets for decades. The R5 is a blend of the original Renault 5’s exterior features with a modern interior and beefy powertrain. Similar to a standard mini, or much-loved Fiat 500, the Alpine R5 fuses an exciting look with excellent power and experience. Although rather similar to the original Renault 5, the 2023 Alpine R5 is larger due to modern safety requirements. An offset fake hood vent dresses the R5’s blunt front end, with cleverly shaped headlamps elongating the Alpine’s bonnet. Lower body creases and sharp edges help to make the R5 suggest a sporty feel upon first glance, with a long sloping boot line and stretched rear light clusters rising into the rear windshield frame. The 2023 Alpine R5 has a dark-colored roof, allowing the vehicle's bottom half to bathe in all the glory, highlighting its nimble design.

Although Alpine haven’t yet elaborated on what the R5’s interior will look like, or in fact what features it will house, we get a little hint of what’s to come from the ‘Hello’ message displayed in the show car's windshield. It’s not the first time that we have seen a vehicle use multicolored interior LED lights to communicate with its owners. Similar to the Mini Electric, we can expect the 2023 Alpine R5 to offer futuristic features that give the illusion that the R5 is talking to its owners. There’s no doubt that the Alpine R5 will come loaded with striking infotainment screens featuring modern connectivity and indulging maps and apps. It shouldn't be a surprise to car enthusiasts if the 2023 Alpine R5 offers a two-spoke steering wheel and colorful seat fabric with tones of luxurious touches. There will likely be plenty of driver-assist features, too.

The 2023 Alpine R5 will house a hefty 50 kWh battery, capable of producing 245 miles of range – more than double that of its rivals. The R5’s impressive range boosts the Alpine’s usability, leaving its rivals way back, suggesting those are more fitted to be a second car for somebody who already owns a diesel or gasoline-powered vehicle.

The 2023 Alpine R5 will come with options of 110 or 135 horsepower. The 110-horsepower version will be capable of sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in 11 seconds, whilst the 135-horsepower version will take just 9 seconds to speed from 0 to 60 mph. Offering breathtaking acceleration, the 2023 Alpine R5 will zoom off the line, featuring a single-speed gearbox, so no need to worry about changing through gears.

The R5’s regenerative brakes mean that as soon as the driver takes their foot off the accelerator, it’ll begin to slow down without the need to touch the brakes. Due to the Alpine R5’s nimble appearance and impressive performance, it seems like the arrival of this hot hatch is highly anticipated and will surpass all expectations when it hits the roads. Undoubtedly, the 2023 Alpine R5 is a bold statement from the French manufacturers, showing that they can offer a compact, exciting and modern vehicle that also looks cool.
