Audi was well-known for introducing performance coupes when it launched the A5 Model’s RS Version in 2010 to enhance its sportiness. With a new design and improved interior, the RS5 was unlike anything the automaker had launched before. The vehicle hit the US shoreline in 2013, and the first generation was sold until 2017.

After a successful run, the second generation was introduced with a better-performing engine and sleeker bodywork that made it more fuel-efficient than its predecessor. 2019 saw the third generation of the RS5 Coupe, which came with a minor facelift and commemorated the 25th Anniversary of the quattro.

To increase the competition in the performance coupe section, the carmaker also introduced the competition and competition plus trims that offer more features for an additional cost.

The 2023 iteration of the Audi RS5 Coupe offers no changes to its engine for its Competition Plus package. However, it has a better handling performance that delivers a smooth driving experience. Increasing its speed and agility with the trim, let’s look at the 2023 Audi RS5 coupe competition plus.

The Limitless Smooth Driving Experience

Under the hood, the RS5 Coupe offers the same 2.9-liter bi-turbo V6 engine that produces a robust 444 HP with 442 lb-ft of torque. While the car featured a limiter that restricted it from going over 180 MPH, the 2023 iteration offers freedom to prance over the limit. The Competition Plus trim comes with firmer stabilizers, three-way adjustable dampers, and tightened springs that combine for a better driving experience. Available exclusively for the trim, the quattro sport differential powers the rear and makes the car more agile. The RS5's Competition Plus pack enables the vehicle to reach the 0 to 60 MPH mark in 3.8 seconds, which is 0.1 seconds faster than the standard model.

While features remain unchanged in the engine, the RS5 Coupe is equipped with a brand-new RS sport exhaust system featuring matte black end pipes. The exhaust system makes the powerful V6 sound better.

The optional features in the RS5 Competition package are offered as additional goodies. These include P-Zero Corsa tires and five-spoke black wheels. The model will be provided in a stunning Sebring Black crystal effect along with the regular exterior paints. Besides the standard features, this package will also include a new rear diffuser, front splitter, and exterior mirror housings designed from carbon fiber that sets itself apart from competitors. The Audi logo and badge will come in a high-gloss black finish. Another feature in the Competition Plus package are the red brake calipers.

The interior receives a new wave of sportiness with the package as it offers Dinamica and Nappa honeycomb-patterned leather and microfiber seats with black side trim. The Alcantara interior has contrasting red accents and stitching on various components that enhance the sportier edge of the Audi. The red stitching can be seen on the shift lever, center console, and the three-spoke heated steering wheel. Even the floor mats have received a hint of red edge with the Audi logo displayed in the center.

Competing With The Best In The Segment

The competition Plus trim is introduced for its 2023 iteration as a response to the BMW M3, and M4 derivatives called the Competition Sport Lightweight and Competition xDrive that was launched this year with a lighter body and improved dynamics. The RS5 Coupe is ready to showcase the increasing improvements of the Audi Sports Division in Neckarsulm, which has plans to show aggressive growth with its performance coupe and offer trims that can go head-to-head with the BMW M-series and Mercedes-AMG.

Along with the complementary features of the Competition trim, the Competition Plus trim comes with manually adjustable coilovers. The RS Suspension Pro lowers the RS5 Coupe by 10 mm compared to the standard model. The user can manually decrease an additional 10 mm if necessary, bringing the 2023 iteration 20 mm closer to the ground. With the update in the automatic transmission and the Quattro Sport Differential, the ABS System has also been tweaked to reduce the stopping distance through the RS Ceramic front brake system.

Compared to the Dynamic Plus package offered in the 2022 Audi RS5 Coupe, the Competition Plus package is an upgrade due to changes in the trim that increases the speed and agility to help gain an enhanced experience. The 2023 Audi RS5 Competition and Competition Plus will begin taking preorders in June 2022 and is expected to cost an estimated $75,000, with upwards of $16,100 as an additional cost for the Competition and Competition Plus trim.
