Luxury automakers around the world saw a boom in sales after the pent-up demand finally bounced back after the pandemic shutdown. Bentley was in the same boat with quite an interesting year. First, we saw the unveiling of the Flying Spur Hybrid which was followed by the launch of the Bentayga’s extended wheelbase version as well as the all-new Azure, Mulliner, and S trim options for its entire lineup.

It was only recently when the company unveiled the ultra-exclusive Mulliner Batur and now we have the Flying Spur Speed which is touted to be the new fastest version of the four-door grand tourer that will complete the portfolio with the W12 engine. To elaborate on the same, the Flying Spur Speed completes its model range considering it was the only model that didn’t have the Speed trim until now.

Also, the car will be the last version of the four-door grand tourer to be powered by the brand’s iconic 6.0-liter W12 engine. The last we saw this engine was on the standard Flying Spur W12 which was discontinued in May 2022. Now, the Speed and the Mulliner trims are the only two versions to currently carry the iconic heart.

The Bentley Flying Spur Speed is special in its own way, being the last iteration of the grand tourer to get this engine option. So before we say goodbye to the iconic car with the iconic W12, let’s take a closer look at it.

The Bentley Flying Spur Speed Is Back in Black

To set it apart from the existing version of the Flying Spur, the Speed trim comes with ample blacked—bits for the inserts of the front grille, headlamps, and taillights. The car also gets a signature ‘Speed’ badge on the lower wing along with an option of 22-inchers covered in either dark tint, silver, or gloss black.

The company is also offering a different range of 22-inch sports versions of the wheels that will be offered in gloss black or pale Brodgar satin finish. To top things out, the car also has jeweled fuel and oil filler caps. In addition to this, as per Bentley, the car will be offered in two other optional packages – Style Specification and Blackline Specification.

The latter put elements like carbon carbon-fiber front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser, and slim-looking spoiler on the trunk in the mix. Meanwhile, the Blackline Specification ditches the chrome bits like the Flying B hood ornament, radiator vanes, matrix grille, side window surrounds, and lower door and rear bumper blades for chic gloss black replacements.

On the inside, the same level of luxury and exclusivity is carried over. There are luxury chronograph watches and a fully digital instrument cluster that comes with performance infotainment graphics. From the bottom of the trim levels, the car will get 24-way power-adjustable front seats and 14-way power-adjustable rear seats, with all the seats having heating, ventilation, and massage functions.

And reinforcing the attention to detail, the car comes with Flying Spur Speed with aluminum sports pedals, ‘Speed’ badges, and illuminated ‘Speed’ inner and outer tread plates. Bentley has extensively made use of Dinamica Pure which is made from 73% recycled polyester at all touchpoints of occupants.

And adding to the bespoke nature of the car there are 15 different interior color choices with piano black veneer coming in as standard. Bentley Customers can also choose from dark stained Burr Walnut, Crown Cut Walnut, or Dark Fiddleback Eucalyptus as no-cost alternatives.

Bentley Flying Spur Speed W12 Performance

As mentioned before, the Flying Spur Speed will be the final iteration of the four-door grand tourer that will come with the famed 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W12 engine. Although, Bentley has tweaked it a bit changing its behavior, outputting more performance at 626 horsepower. For the unaware, this is almost 84 ponies more than the S version. The tale is the same in terms of torque as the engine now outputs 664 pound-feet (96 pound-feet more than the S).

All this means that the car can reach 60 miles per hour in just 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 207 miles per hour. Transmission duties are handled by the same 8-speed ZF DCT from other versions of the Flying Spur.

The Flying Spur Speed has been made as more of a driver’s car than for someone who prefers to be chauffeured around. And for the same, Bentley has significantly tweaked the suspension and steering setup. The car gets all-wheel steering, torque vectoring by brake, and Bentley Dynamic Ride as standard. To make things even better, it also comes with three modes including Comfort, Bentley, and Sport that tweaks the torque supplied to the front axles.

The Speed also comes with Bentley Dynamic Ride tech which uses a 48V system that controls an electronic actuator for altering the stiffness of the anti-roll bar. It allows the driver to have better control over the car while being challenged by cornering forces. Furthermore, the car also comes with a 16.54-inch disc at the front, which also is the largest brake for a car in the world.

The Bentley Flying Spur Speed is the perfect way for the company to say goodbye to the iconic W12 engine. This is also true for those who have grown fond of W12 sedans from the company through all these years as the W12 Flying Spur goes out being the way it has been known for – an ultra-luxury sedan that is meant not only for those seated at the back but also for those who love the thrill of driving.
