Ford is introducing its 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor model, a smaller class of the legendary F-150 Raptor. The Ranger Raptor model offers a cross between off-road capabilities and the practical side of things. It's also a budget-friendly way of owning a Ford truck if you're after a midsize option.

The American auto manufacturer has not confirmed the exact release date for the new Ranger Raptor yet, nor made any official statement as to when it will be available in the United States.

It is predicted that this new Raptor model will be hitting the market towards the end of 2022. Many specifics about this next Ranger remain unknown still, but here is what we do know thus far.

Let's take a closer look at the new Ford Ranger Raptor.

What We Expect From The 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor

There's nothing much updated about its configuration except that it appears smaller and has this syncopated black and white camouflage print. This new Ranger will likely have flared fenders, tough tires, greater ground clearance, and its iconic grille seen on the existing Ranger models.

This pickup truck may have always had the same recognizable exterior--a five-foot freight box linked to a crew cab. But the 2023 Raptor is expected to have a long-travel suspension for jumping and a more robust engine for faster desert journeys.

The inside of the new truck seems to be slightly different compared to its regular counterparts. Leather and microsuede upholstery, as well as extensively bolstered front seats, are standard for this version. Its steering wheel should have a red band at the 12 o'clock mark, indicating its performance edge, in addition to a pair of aluminum paddle shifters.

We expect it to include dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, remote start, and other standard and optional features similar to the base model as well.

An 8-inch touchscreen (with Ford's updated Sync infotainment software) is anticipated inside every 2023 Ranger Raptor. Meaning, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot would all be standard.

In addition to several charging points, the broad Ranger is also most likely to include features like built-in navigation and a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system.

Other 2023 Ranger Raptor Upgrades

Most of its major upgrades are expected to take place under its hood. There's likely going to be more emphasis on fuel economy for its engine performance.

Based on our conjectures, it'll get a twin-turbo 2.7-liter V-6 engine similar to the one found in the full-size Ford Bronco SUV, making 310 horsepower and 400 lb-feet of torque. A 10-speed automatic transmission should provide such power to all four wheels.

Since it's going to share the Raptor name, it should have a sturdier suspension and brawny off-road equipment than that of your regular Ford Ranger. It should feature up to 33-inch all-terrain tires with larger front and rear tracks, as well as a higher riding height and enhanced ground clearance.

Ford hasn't released any performance numbers on the 2023 Ranger Raptor yet. We're still waiting on the numbers for its engine power output and fuel consumption ratings. It hasn't been crash-tested yet as well but the efforts of appealing to modern technology are observed.

The mid-size pickup vehicle is expected to include a bevy of driver-assistance features: forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise

How Will It Compare With Its Competition?

Just like the rest of the other details that we are excited to find out about, Ford has not named the price yet. What is sure though is that it's going to start at a higher price than the top-of-the-line Ranger Lariat (another midsize pickup from Ford but a little less exciting). Hence, the latest Raptor might value $44,500 or more.

Chances are that the 2023 Ranger Raptor may be compared to the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro and Chevy Colorado ZR2 in the mid-size pickup category. These two make a good competitor, especially the Toyota Tacoma which is a rather heavy-duty capable mid-size pickup vehicle.

TRD models have a plethora of available off-road performance equipment, as well as strong towing abilities. The downside might be that this Toyota truck could use need engine power. Still, it's a smooth ride to have and it has good seating capacity and ample truckbed area.

The Chevrolet Colorado, on the other hand, is another capable pickup. It's quiet and pleasant inside and gives a better rider feel than you might anticipate from a pickup truck. It has a bigger truckbed area, which is pretty standard for an American pickup.

In this segment, Ford offers attractive limited and powertrain warranties. In addition, unlike rivals such as the Chevy and Toyota, the Ranger Raptor does not come with free maintenance.
