The Ford Super Duty is one of the best selling vehicles in the Ford range, and a rugged and dependable pickup truck. We all know the Super Duty as a heavy-duty pickup truck, but the current generation of the Super Duty has been somewhat dated for a while. True, it had a refresh in 2020, but that was just a minor cosmetic makeover. There hasn’t been a new generation of the Super Duty for some years. Until now, as the Super Duty appears in a brand-new form.
Ford has taken the wraps off the 2023 Ford F-Series Super Duty, the next-generation of the rugged truck that Ford says takes the heavy-duty machine to the next level. It features a further refreshed exterior design, a new V8 engine to go with it and a wide array of tech for the interior. Make no mistake, this is a big set-up compared to the 2020 refresh of the last generation Super Duty. Finally, the Super Duty is now brought into the 2020s. It might well be the smartest American pickup truck yet as well.
Under The Hood Of The 2023 Super Duty
We must briefly touch upon the engines available though. Ford has made a new standard 6.8-liter V8 engine for the Super Duty, targeting low-end torque for steep grades. A 7.3-liter V8 engine is also available as is a 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel, and a new high-output 6.8-liter Power Stroke diesel with a unique turbo and upgraded exhaust manifolds. So there is plenty of choice available, although Ford has not yet revealed the power figures for each of the available options. The highlights though of the Super Duty is how it powers into the digital age.
Ford has given the new Super Duty its new Pro Upfit Integration System. This is a digital system that allows aftermarket equipment makers access to the Super Duty’s electric system, so they integrate and operate their hardware seamlessly on the truck. Pro Power Onboard is now also available for the Super Duty allowing for 2.0-kilowats of power for, in Ford’s own words, to power a job site or a tailgate party. There is so much more to the Super Duty too, such as the onboard scales with Smart Hitch that allows drivers to estimate cargo weight in real time.
A New Pickup Truck Laden With Technology
Technology is the name of the game with the Super Duty. It is the first pickup truck in the USA to be fully embedded with AT&T 5G capability. This will allow the truck to deliver fast navigation, mapping and music downloads with a higher quality than with 4G. Plus, the 5G technology within the Super Duty will allow for a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 10 devices. Another incredibly smart piece of tech on the truck is Trailer Theft Alert, that sends an alert via the FordPass app if anyone tries to disconnect the trailer when your truck is all locked.
Fleet Start Inhibit is another great future. Available to Ford Pro customers, this allows you to schedule when you want your vehicle started to help improve fleet operations. Within the truck itself we have a full-color heads-up display that keeps the information the driver needs right in their line of sight, with Ford saying that this will help the driver keep their eyes on the road. This also changes with the driving mode that the driver selects. There is even more tech available such as Pro Trailer Hitch assist that backs the truck up and aligns it with the trailer, and a 360-degree Trailer Camera System for better maneuvering in tight spaces.
A Full Refresh Both Inside And Out
Ford have worked their magic on the interior and exterior. The interior features an 8-inch center display on the standard XL model with a 12-inch on higher trim levels. A 12-inch digital instrument cluster and Alexa Built-in hands free are just some of the other features, as are the various B&O sound systems. There are seven new-grilles for the exterior of the Super Duty, with LED headlamps now available on all-trim levels and signature “C-Clamp” lighting giving the Super Duty a very distinctive and wide look.
A Highly Intelligent And Dependable Pickup Truck
The 2023 Super Duty is one of the most intelligent pickup trucks we have ever seen. It is full of technology to make the drivers lives as easy as possible, while offering plenty of creature comforts inside, a powerful array of engine choices and some badly needed refreshed looks on the outside. The 2023 Super Duty is a truck that many people have been waiting for, to bring Ford’s big heavy-duty monster right up to date. Ford says that the truck will go on sale in early 2023 with some features and trim series available from Spring 2023 onwards.
