The midsize pickup truck market has aggressively evolved over the past decade. From just utilitarian machines to luxurious family vehicles, some pickup trucks has given a tough time to some luxury cars, at least in the United States. And there are plenty of reasons behind this. They not only offer muscular performance but also look stylish and offer a premium cabin. While there are plenty of companies offering trucks, GMC has stood out, describing itself as the "luxury pickup truck" division of General Motors.

Recently, GMC has introduced the third-generation Canyon in the United States with all the advancements it needs. The Canyon has been redesigned with sharper exterior styling and a gorgeous-looking cabin on the inside. Besides, the previous engines are swapped for a brawnier 2.7-liter High Performance Output inline-four engine.

However, that’s not the end of the story. GMC is keen on expanding the Canyon’s AT4 lineup, and they have introduced a freshly baked AT4X model, which is eye-wateringly expensive but offers phenomenal off-road performance with a superior set of mechanical features, available from spring 2023.

According to GMC, the new AT4X will be the flagship model of the 2023 Canyon. While they have priced the "extremely-limited" Canyon AT4X Edition 1 at $63,350, we expect the AT4X to launch with a base price of around $60,000. Speaking of competition, it will compete with the likes of the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro, and Ford Ranger Raptor.

While we leave the other aspects of the new Canyon AT4X to be discussed separately, let’s dive deep into its interior and talk about it in detail.

Apart from the redesigned fascia, new engine, and features, the most apparent change in the new Canyon is its redesigned interior. The GMC Canyon has always been the upscale sibling of the Chevrolet Colorado, and the Canyon just got better with the new generation. For 2023 and, of course, the new generation, GMC has introduced a brand-new trim in the AT4 family, known as the AT4X, which promises more off-road capability and a healthier set of features. If you are already impressed with the cabin offered in the Denali and regular Canyon AT4 model, wait till you take a peek inside the new AT4X.

GMC has exhibited a different approach in the interior design of the new Canyon. The new Canyon’s interior design is functional, but GMC has made it look and feel luxurious, which is somewhat uncommon in the pickup truck segment. The quality of materials has improved drastically, and it elevates the overall ambiance of the cabin.

The new Canyon AT4X features a sporty-looking interior, with Obsidian Rush trim all around. The dashboard looks gorgeous, and the layout offers superb ergonomics. Most of the parts of the dashboard are constructed with durable textured plastics beautifully stacked together with carbon fiber interior accents and chunky AT4X badging. To add a plush touch, designers have decorated the dashboard with white leatherette pieces and red-accented stitching, as well as red-accented climate control vents.

AT4X Offers A Driver-Centric Cockpit

The AT4X’s cockpit features one of the best layouts and styling in the midsize pickup truck segment. The cockpit is not only stylish, but it also offers exceptional functionality. The cockpit offers a wide slabbed display unit comprised of a pair of displays. On the left, you get a fully digital instrument cluster and a multimedia touchscreen at the center, flanked by metal trim. The lower dashboard houses front and rear selectable e-locking function switches, which are easy to access while driving. Hence, the AT4X’s cabin not only looks phenomenal for a truck but also offers great functionality.

GMC will offer the 2023 Canyon AT4X with one configuration: the four-door crew cab. That said, the crew cabin will offer room for five passengers. Just like Canyon’s previous generation crew cabs, the 2023 Canyon AT4X Crew Cab will offer excellent comfort and plenty of space for the passengers.

The cabin features AT4X-embroidered sport perforated leather seats. The front seats offer 40.3-inches of headroom and 45.2-inches of legroom, making them ideal for taller people. For comfort, the front bucket seats come equipped with power adjustability, heating and cooling, lumbar support, memory settings, and adjustable headrests.

The rear seats offer 38.3-inches of headroom and 34.7-inches of legroom. So, they are better suited for shorter adults, children, or extra storage space. While GMC has only spoken about offering an Edition 1 package for off-road customization, we expect GMC to offer several other packages which will include heated rear outboard seats.

Entertainment is also taken care of with a decent set of multimedia features. The center includes an 11.3-inch full HD touchscreen, a seven-speaker Bose premium audio system with an external amp, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Google interface, a wireless phone charging pad, voice assist, navigation with destination assist, and several other features. In a first for the segment, it even offers front and rear underbody cameras for the best visibility.

All things said, the Canyon AT4X’s interior looks phenomenal for a pickup truck. GMC has always ruled the segment with its posh interiors and a vast number of features, and we think GMC will continue on that streak.
