After months of teasing us with photos, Kia's first dedicated electric vehicle, the EV6, rolled out of the production line earlier this year and joined the hottest automotive segment for the 2022 model year. Since its launch, the Kia EV6 has been showered with lots of great reviews and has enjoyed a sold-out status in every dealership. And, really, there’s so much to like about the Kia EV6. It has a fantastic exterior design that won the international Red Dot Design Awards. This cabin is a lot more spacious than you’d expect from a C-SUV. It also has the 800-volt ultra-fast charging technology, as well as a plethora of safety and convenience features such as Lane Follow Assist, remote smart parking assist, and the AR head-up display.

Besides also becoming the 2022 European Car of the Year champion, the Kia EV6 also went ahead and broke the world record previously held by Tesla. And that was just the base EV6 model, out of the total 3 offered. However, performance enthusiasts still waited for the promised high-powered GT variants that were first announced but kept until production ramped up. Despite releasing the base model, the GT versions weren’t going to be available until later this year. But now, we don’t just know when the EV6 GT will hit dealer showrooms, but we also know what power output and performance you should expect.

When it hits the market in the last quarter of 2022, the Kia EV6 GT will be the company's most powerful production vehicle. According to Kia, the 576-horsepower output will allow the EV6 GT to compete with exotic cars, such as the Ferrari Roma and the V10-propelled Lamborghini Huracán Evo Spyder RWD, both of which are gas-powered. While the peak power may not be too impressive for those opting out of the Tesla Model S Plaid or Lucid Air Dream, it's a remarkable feature for an EV with a $60,000 price tag.

Read on as we dive into the 2023 Kia EV6 GT’s great powertrain specs and performance numbers, as well as a few other notable features worth looking out for.

How The Kia EV6 GT Produces Its Supercar-Type Performance

The EV6 GT gets its power from the same Nickel Cobalt Manganese battery as the standard EV6. But unlike the standard trim that can be had with 58 kWh battery capacity, the GT is only available in a larger 77.4 kWh package. The EV6 GT’s driveline incorporates a dual-motor (a 270-kilowatt unit out back and a 160-kW chum up front) all-wheel-drive system that generates a peak of 576 horsepower and 546 lb.-ft of torque, which is the highest output achieved by a Kia vehicle. Kia claims it will hit 60mph in 3.4 seconds for a top speed of 161mph.

Behind the wheel, the Kia EV6 GT promises a smooth, confident drive that complemented the sport-tuned suspension system that incorporates adjustable dampers, and the electronically controlled limited-slip differential that provides extra cornering traction when you need it. Strong stopping power, a key component of any high-performance car, is provided by monobloc brakes that crush 15.0-inch front and 14.2-inch rear rotors. It features cool-looking 21-inch wheels that are wrapped in Goodyear Eagle F1 tires.

Unfortunately, with all the performance, the EV6 GT sacrifices driving range. So, unlike its standard trim that gives between 232 and 310 miles, the EV6 GT should only travel 206 miles on a full charge, which is a hard hit. Like the standard version of the EV6, the GT comes with an 800-volt charging architecture, which lets you utilize the latest ultra-fast DC charging technology. According to the brand, you’ll be able to charge the battery from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes if you utilize the 350-kW charging station. And upon purchasing any Kia EV6 trim level, buyers will get 1,000 kWh of free charging at Electrify America charging stations over the first 3 years of ownership.

Following the brand’s design philosophy, Opposites United, the Kia EV6 GT’s exterior isn’t too different from the standard trim, boasting a powerful visual identity that perfectly blends sharp stylistic elements and sculptural shapes. Though the GT’s rear end is more aggressive, especially with the addition of the new spoiler and diffuser.

The EV6 is also the first Kia to be based on Kia's Advanced Global Electric Modular Platform (E-GMP), This platform allows the EV6 to have the widest interior in its class. The GT variant’s interior looks similar to the standard version, but with a few extra treats, such as the bright neon green accents that add style to the cabin, and the standard bucket seats that come with vegan suede upholstery. But aside from that, the cabin should provide the same comfort as its standard counterpart, if not more.
