Representatives of the Japanese car company Subaru have already announced that their plans include the release of all-electric models. And today the company has released a teaser and announced the name of a new electric SUV developed in collaboration with Toyota. The SUV will be sold all over the world, including Europe, the USA, China, and Japan.

The name Subaru Solterra is derived from the Latin words "Sol" (Sun) and "Terra" (Earth). This reveals the automaker's desire for peaceful coexistence with Mother Nature.

The model is based on the e-Subaru Global Platform (e-TNGA), which is a special modification of Toyota's TNGA. It is designed specifically for electric cars and it was developed by both companies together. The chassis makes it possible to create vehicles with a different number of engines. In addition, it is suitable for options with rear, front or all-wheel drive.

The published teasers provide little information on the new car. It is possible to see LED headlights, a strong bonnet, high ground clearance, and probably underbody protection.

Subaru still keeps the specifications of the Solterra a secret. However, according to unofficial data, the crossover will receive two engines (one on each axle), which will provide an all-wheel drive. The company has also promised various versions of the electric vehicle.

The exterior and interior of the Solterra remain a mystery as well, although the manufacturer has already released two images of the future electric car. But they are not very informative, so it is difficult to determine the design features. One of the images shows the darkened silhouette of the car, which actually looks like a crossover. In the second image, you can see a frond-end of a car with the inscription of the model name.

Subaru and Toyota have announced that they will be working on electric cars together in the summer of 2019. In addition to developing the platform, the companies said they will release an electric C-class crossover, which will be sold under both brands. Subaru Solterra is expected to go on sale in 2022. The model will compete with Volkswagen ID.4, Nissan Ariya and other similar cars.
