With this generation update, the new Sequoia ditches the older model's gasoline V8 engine for a much more fuel-efficient V6 powertrain. Part of Toyota's i-Force MAX hybrid drivetrain, this new 3.4-liter motor, on its own, generates 389 horsepower along with 479 lb-ft of torque. Combined with the electric motor, the total system output of this set-up stands at 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. As standard, all the grades of this SUV come with two-wheel drive with the optional availability of four-wheel drive. The only exception is the TRD Pro which gets four-wheel drive as standard. This grade also comes with off-road goodies, such as Fox shock absorbers, skid plates, a rear-locking differential, and off-road-specific driver aids. In addition, the new Sequoia can tow up to 9,000 pounds.

Unlike the Sequoia, the 2023 Yukon does not come with a hybrid powertrain. Instead, this full-size SUV comes with a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel engine which produces 277 horsepower along with 490-lb-ft of torque. In addition to this, the Yukon also gets two gasoline motors. There is a 3.5-liter V8 engine that produces 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. And a 6.2-liter V8 engine that churns out 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. All these engines come as standard with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive options depend on the chosen trim. The Yukon also comes with an off-road specific grade known as the AT4. In addition to featuring 4WD as standard, it gets particular off-road upgrades such as all-terrain tires, skid plates, air suspension to increase the ride height, and a few driver assistance systems. The Yukon can tow up to 8,400 pounds.

In addition to increasing the capability of the 2023 Sequoia, the new hybrid powertrain has drastically improved its fuel-efficiency figures. EPA rates this full-size SUV's two-wheel drive versions for 21 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway. On the other hand, the four-wheel drive versions are rated by EPA to deliver 19 MPG in the city and 22 MPG on the highway.

As expected, the two gasoline V8s of the GMC Yukon are not that fuel-efficient. The 3.5-liter and the 6.5-liter engines are rated by EPA to deliver 15 MPG in the city and 20 MPG on the highway. That said, the 3.0-liter diesel engine shines among the line-up of this SUV in terms of delivering decent fuel efficiency. EPA rates this to deliver 20 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway.

With this generation update, the interior of the Sequoia has also undergone a significant transformation. Not only does it get better quality materials, but it also features improved connectivity options. Depending upon the chosen trim, this SUV gets either a cloth upholstered cabin or a leather one. Three-row seating comes as standard, with the choice of captain seats for the middle row. Unfortunately, the hybrid system batteries placed underneath the third row slightly hamper the luggage carrying capacity, reducing it to just 12 cubic feet with all the rows up. Where this vehicle reclaims itself is in the infotainment department, thanks to its gigantic 14-inch touchscreen display. Not only does it offer wireless connectivity through Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, but it also supports voice commands.

The Yukon comes with a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system. In addition to offering connectivity options for mobile devices, it also comes with built-in Google. The Yukon is also a practical vehicle, providing 25 cu-ft of storage capacity with all the rows up. This extends to 41 cu-ft in the Yukon XL.
