We have known a hybrid version of the Chevrolet Corvette C8 has been coming for a while now. While it might not be welcome news to the purists, the truth is a hybrid Corvette was going to come sooner rather than later and now, we’ve managed to get another look at this exciting prospect.

Thanks to our sister site TopSpeed, we’ve got a few new spy shots of the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray in action, with some shots of the car out on test at the Nürburgring.

Diving Under The Skin Of The E-Ray

We know that under the hood of the E-Ray will be a 6.2-liter V8 engine. This is the same motor that we can find under the hood of the regular C8. However, it will instead get paired with a couple of electric motors, mounted on the front axle. The V8 engine on its own delivers 495 hp. Now, though, the hybrid system will add another 115 to that total, bringing the figure to around the 610 hp mark. The car will be slap bang in the middle of the regular C8 Stingray and the Z06, which has 670 hp on offer.

Focus On Improved Performance

There is more of a focus on improved performance with the E-Ray than any actual efficiency change. The 0-60 mph time is set to be within the low two-second range, making it faster than even the Z06 in an acceleration test.

Of course, though, you are wondering how we can differentiate this car with the regular C8. Well, for starters, there is a different design for the air dam on the car, and it is running with smaller brakes and on standard Michelin tires as well.

Getting Ready For The Hybrid Corvette

We don’t have an awful lot of official information from Corvette on the car, but we expect that isn’t too far away. No doubt we will get further details as the testing program rolls on and the official debut moves closer. As TopSpeed say, we expect the debut to come later in 2022 with the E-Ray to hopefully go on sale for the 2023 model year. And there is a chance it is coming not only as a two-door coupe with a removable hard top panel, but also as a hard top convertible as well. We will just have to wait and see.
