2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Gets Three Screens And A Selfie Camera
Much like the popular EQS sedan, the new E-Class has three screens with a multitude of functions. The center display is a 14.4-inch unit, while the digital instrument cluster and the new entertainment screen are two 12.3-inch items offering tons of information. The third display, however, is an optional extra, primarily for the front-seat passenger. But having that allows the passenger to indulge in streaming TV shows or even video games. You are offered a collection of apps, including TikTok, Angry Birds, Zoom, and Vivaldi.
The new 2024 E-Class also introduces the third-gen MBUX infotainment software, which is expected to be replaced by the MB.OS architecture in a few years. Mercedes emphasizes that the W214 E-Class is more software-driven and less about the hardware. Hence why video streaming, interactive programs, sports, news, and on-demand content are all part of the E-Class infotainment experience.
Additionally, the car offers a selfie camera mounted on the dashboard as part of the MBUX Superscreen. This unlocks productivity improvements by allowing the driver (only when the vehicle is stationary) to enjoy a Zoom call in addition to taking photos and videos.
Redesigned 2024 E-Class Has The Best Luxury Car Interior
Listening to music gets a whole new meaning in the 2024 Mercedes E-Class, elevating the luxury experience. Mercedes claims occupants in the new E-Class can experience sound in a multi-dimensional way, including visual cues and sensory feedback. The optional Burmester 4D surround sound system incorporates sound-resonating transducers that let you “feel” the music. Moreover, the ambient lighting system puts on a show based on the sound intensity. For example, fast beats cause rapid light changes, while flowing rhythms create a soft transition in the lighting sequence.
While comfort is not something new in the automotive business, the concept takes a massive leap in the new E-Class. The Energizing Comfort system, as Mercedes calls it, sets the interior mood by controlling the temperature, fragrances, music, and massage functions, in addition to preventing motion sickness. But perhaps the coolest luxury feature is the new Energizing Coach function, which detects stress levels (with wearable monitors) and activates relaxation methods to soothe you down.
However, Mercedes-Benz acknowledges that some of the features mentioned are market-specific. For instance, the motion sickness program is not available in the USA and Canada. It’s also worth mentioning that Mercedes has thought about the passenger display not being a distraction. Mercedes’ image filtering ensures that the driver’s eye movements are monitored and if needed, will obscure the passenger screen content for occupant safety. Additionally, the brand is currently looking into the approval situation of the selfie camera in various markets.
New AI-powered 2024 Mercedes E-Class Arrives Later This Year
The new Mercedes E-Class is undoubtedly a technological tour de force. The car is so smart that it can even set “routines.” Mercedes says the feature allows you to switch on the seat heating and set the ambient lighting to a particular color if the interior temperature is below a certain level.
Mercedes-Benz also mentions that the new E-Class will feature artificial intelligence (AI) so that the car learns which comfort systems are used repeatedly. The personalized AI-powered automation, however, is for a later date, provided the technology gets approved by the various legislations. What’s certain, though, is that the new 2024 E-Class will have its U.S. debut later this year.
