In practically every rap video these days (and in the days of old), you’re bound to see some awesome cars. Whether that’s a ‘64 Chevy Impala from Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s “Nuthin’ But a ‘G’ Thang,” or a Maybach from Jay-Z and Kanye’s “Otis” video, rappers own some of the coolest rides. And that’s because hip-hop is the most popular music genre out there, and the lucky few who hit the Billboard charts are raking in the big bucks and making more money than people probably thought possible. And with those huge royalty checks, many of them are buying expensive toys: namely, luxury and exotic cars.
A lot of rappers own cars that reflect their personality. Photo shoots, album covers, and extremely low-priced leases add to the mess of determining who owns what: Does the rapper in that one video really own that Lamborghini, or is he just faking it? Believe us, there are tons who “fake it ‘til they make it,” especially in the rap game. So we did some searching to find out which rappers own which cars, with the ultimate goal of finding the 21 rappers with the biggest or best car collections in hip-hop. Then we found four of the richest rappers in the world, who we expect would have some of the biggest collections, and were thoroughly unimpressed with what they had to offer. So we had to throw those four on the list, not to shame them, but… okay, yes, to shame them.
Here are 21 of the biggest car collectors in hip-hop, and four who need more.
Shad Moss, aka Bow Wow, has had quite a collection in his day. He’s owned a Hummer H2, a Mercedes-Benz SL-Class, a Ferrari 360 Modena, a BMW 645i, and a Ferrari F430.
Recently, though, we’ve heard that he actually got sued for owing back money on his F430 lease.
Ouch. He also recently made headlines after his ex-girlfriend Keyshia Cole reportedly tried vandalize his car by throwing a cake at his precious Rolls-Royce. But he went on to say in his Twitter rant, “Only thing is it’s not my car,” so we won’t add it to his list.
Wiz Khalifa is one of the most popular rappers in the game at the moment. Besides his chart-topping albums, he also wrote a song for the soundtrack of Furious 7, which peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 charts for 12 non-consecutive weeks. He’s an avid car collector, too, though people might think he’s a bigger collector than he actually is thanks to his “Black and Yellow” song. He does own a Pontiac Bonneville, a Dodge Challenger, and a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS, opting for old school muscle cars.
Jadakiss is known for being a third of the New York hip-hop group, The Lox, as well as being a member of Ruff Ryders. He’s had four studio albums, first signing with Jay Z’s Roc-A-Fella Records and Def Jam Recordings in 2007.
He’s had controversies involving 50 Cent and Bill O’Reilly, which has only increased his popularity.
He has a very distinct style in music and a distinct taste in cars: he loves Acura Integras. He also owns a Volkswagen Corrado, a Mercedes-Benz CLK430, a Range Rover, a BMW M6, and a Porsche Panamera.
The Game is best known as a hip-hop artist who burgeoned on the West Coast scene under Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Records. The Compton native is considered a driving force behind bringing back the West Coast hip-hop scene in the 2000s. He’s been in G-Unit, Geffen Records, Universal, and has two straight albums that debuted on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart at number one. He owns some sweet rides, including a Rolls-Royce Ghost, a Chevrolet Camaro, a Ferrari F430 that he wrapped in leather, and a Porsche Panamera that he can’t pick the color for: first it was white, then it was gold, now it’s red.
T.I. first came onto the scene in 1999, after signing with Arista, then forming the Southern hip-hop group P$C in 2001. He has nine studio albums, with seven of them reaching the top five of the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, so you could say he’s a big deal. He had three consecutive albums that peaked at number one through 2008, and he’s also an accomplished actor and author. He’s rapped about Bentley Mulannes, and he owns one, as well as a Ferrari 599 GTB, a Mercedes-Benz SLR, and a Dodge Challenger.
Rick Ross is known to some as Mr. Maybach. He’s often been seen recently alongside DJ Khaled, who is also an absolute connoisseur of the finer things in life (mainly Rolls-Royces, of which he owns more than five).
Although he doesn’t stick only to Maybachs, he is reportedly one of only two people in the world with a Maybach Coupe.
He also owns a 1973 Chevy Impala, a Bentley Continental Supersports, and a Rolls-Royce Ghost, making his collection easily in excess of $1 million.
Flo Rida is a rapper who became famous for his 2008 single, “Low,” sitting at number one on the charts for 10 weeks and breaking the record for digital download sales at the time. He’s sold over 80 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists in the world, and that’s with just four studio albums. His car passion became evident when people started seeing him riding around in a Bugatti Veyron. He also owns a Mercedes-Benz CL-Class and a Ferrari California, but neither are nearly as cool as the Bugatti.
You might expect one of the most famous and wealthiest rappers of all time to have more cars, but the ones Diddy does own are quite phenomenal. With an estimated wealth of $825 million, Sean Combs is the second-richest hip-hop artist in the world (behind Jay Z).
Besides his seven-time platinum records, he’s also won three Grammys, which is nothing to sneeze at.
He owns a Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe (one of the most expensive luxury cars money can buy), a 1959 Chevrolet Corvette, and a Lamborghini Gallardo, and he also bought his son a Maybach.
50 Cent has done a lot with his career outside of the rap game (or because of it). He’s one of the world’s best-selling rappers in history, first rising to prominence with G-Unit, which he founded. He’s been ranked the sixth-best artist of the 2000s and third-best rapper (behind Eminem and Nelly) by Billboard. He’s also made sound investments as a businessman, and has had some success acting. So, he can afford these cars: a Rolls-Royce Ghost, a Lamborghini Gallardo, a Lamborghini Murcielago, a Ferrar F430, and a Pontiac G8.
Pharrell might be keeping low for the time being in recent years, but he’s still one of the most successful rappers in this generation. He’s also a producer, a fashion designer, an entertainer, a lead singer, a two-time Acadamy Award nominee, and an entrepreneur with his “i am Other” multimedia collective.
He has his hands in everything, it seems. He owns a couple of the coolest cars around, including a Ferrari Enzo and a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren.
He owns a Rolls-Royce Phantom, which was written about in his video with Snoop for “Drop it Like it’s Hot”: “The Phantom, exterior like fish eggs, the interior like suicide wrist red.”
Snoop Dogg is one of the most O.G. car leaders in the rap game, and he deserves all sorts of respect for that. He’s a classy rapper, and he drives classy cars that seem to fit his personality perfectly. Most of his cars pull from the golden age of classics, meaning the ‘60s and ‘70s. He has a lowered, chrome-rimmed, blacked-out Chrysler 300, a custom ’74 Cadillac lowrider, a ’69 Buick Riviera, a L.A. Laker-themed ’67 Pontiac Parisienne convertible signed by the team (including Shaq), and a ’68 Cadillac Coupe DeVille.
Mr. Aston Taylor, or Funkmaster Flex, is one of the most eclectic car owners on this list, with one of the coolest collections. His infatuation with cars came from his father, and he’s been a lifelong enthusiast for late-‘60s and early-‘70s muscle cars.
His auto presence is so big he’s gotten his own shows and has a spot on his website dedicated to cars.
Check out his collection: 1969 Chevrolet Nova, 1971 Ford Torino GT, 1976 Ford Torino, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle, 1969 Pontiac GTO Convertible, 1968 Chevy Camaro, 1969 Chevy Camaro, 1967 Ford Galaxie, 1969 Dodge Charger R/T, 1965 Chevy Impala SS 396, 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass, 2005 Ford Expedition, 2006 Ford Mustang.
Lil Wayne has had some of the most expensive cars in the world at different times. When he was younger, a “kid,” he owned a bunch of little cars like a mini Plymouth Prowler and a mini 4x4, and a giant PT Cruiser. He also owned a regular Prowler, a Cadillac Escalade, and a giant, stretched Chevrolet Z66 truck limo. Nowadays he’s grown up a bit and gotten some big boy cars, and some of the most expensive ones you can buy: a Bugatti Veyron, a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, a Rolls-Royce Phantom, and a Maybach 62. And his cheapest car? A Porsche Boxster.
Lupe Fiasco wasn’t always known as a gearhead, but his true colors were noticed by fans worldwide when he a) tweeted his Daytona when Carroll Shelby passed away, in memorandum, and b) had a cover story in the latest “Rides” magazine.
He’s had a record hit #1 on the Billboard 200, and he has two clothing lines, and has designed sneakers for Reebok.
His car list is astonishing: a Chevy Camaro SS, a ’67 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk replica, a Ferrari 575M, a Mercedes-Benz SL500, a Ferrari 465 GTA, a Ferrari 400i, a 1986 Ferrari 412, a Jeep Wrangler, a ’71 Chevy Cheyenne CT pickup, and his Shelby Daytona Coupe.
It’s about time we have a female rapper on this list, and who better to represent the fairer sex than the best-selling female rapper of all time? She’s a four-time Grammy winner and, according to Billboard, she holds the record for best-selling female rapper in Nielsen Music history. Missy Elliott has what her mother calls a car buying addiction. It’s a habit that she can’t break, and why would she? She owns the following: Lamborghini Diablo, Bentley Continental GT, Aston Martin V12 Vanquish, Rolls-Royce Phantom, Lamborghini Aventador, Ferrari Enzo, Spyker C8 Spyder, Lincoln Navigator, Lamborghini Gallardo, Lexus X570, Ferrari 458, Lexus LFA, Mercedes-Benz AMG, Mercedes-Benz G-Class, and even a Ferrari that was converted into a bed!
'One of the most successful rappers of all time, Eminem has had 10 number-one albums on the Billboard 200. He’s sold 220 million records globally, making him one of the best-selling artists of all time (in the same company as Rihanna, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, and Madonna). And check out his absolutely epic car collection: Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Ferrari 575, Porsche Carrera GT, Ford GT, Audi R8 Spyder, Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0, Porsche 911 GT2 RS, Lamborghini Aventador, Porsche 911 Turbo, McLaren MP4-12C, Ferrari 599 GTO, and a Ferrari 430 Scuderia.
We’re getting to the end of the biggest car collectors in hip-hop, and perhaps no one is as big of an automotive enthusiast as T-Pain. He not only owns various years of the same car, but can explain how not just the aesthetics are different, but how the engines are different.
Back when Forbes wrote an article on T-Pain in 2009, he had 32 cars.
Here are some of the best: Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe, ’69 Chevy Impala, Scion xB, Ferrar F430, Cadillac Hearse, ’72 Chevy Impala, Oldsmobile 442, ’91 Chevy Caprice Classic, ’63 drop-top Chevy Impala, ’63 hard-top Chevy Impala, Ford F-650, Buick Lacerne, ’72 Chevy Chevelle, and the icing on the cake: a Bugatti Veyron.
Soulja Boy is a rapper with only a few albums under his belt, but he’s had a lot of success on the Billboard charts. In 2010, he was listed at #18 on Forbe’s list of “Hip-Hop Cash Kings of 2010,” for earning $7 million that year.
Unsurprisingly, the man has a huge collection, including a few Lamborghinis and a red Bentley Continental that he always keeps nearby, and a matte-black Bentley too, as well a helicopter and white Rolls-Royce Wraith.
His collection reportedly costs $41 million, though we're not sure how that number came about... It's probably including the helicopter.
There is no one on this list who has spent more money on cars, probably, than Birdman. He spends an exorbitant amount of money on the newest, fastest, most expensive rides, even once owning the $8-million Maybach Exelero (but then selling it to someone else). He claimed at one point to own 50 cars, and that was when Lil Wayne was just 16 years old. Imagine the money Birdman has made off Young Money since then! Some of his top cars include a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, a Maybach 62S Landaulet, and four different Bugatti Veyrons!
Wyclef Jean has been around the game for a long time, first as part of the New Jersey hip-hop group, the Fugees. He’s won three Grammy Awards, and even ran for the 2010 Haitian presidency! (Though he was ruled ineligible for office for not being a Haitian resident for five years).
He has a huge collection of custom cars and choppers, including a Rolls-Royce Phantom, a Bentley Arnage, a Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz, a Mercedes-Benz G-Class, and his two most expensive: a Pagani Zonda and a McLaren F1 (two recently sold for $12 million and $13.75 million). For that car alone, the McLaren F1, the “original” supercar, Wyclef deserves to be near the top of this list.
Jay-Z is one of the most celebrated rappers of all time (married to one of the most celebrated artists, making him and Beyonce the ultimate power couple in the music industry). He’s received 21 Grammy Awards, tied with Kanye West for the most by a rapper.
He holds the record for #1 albums by a solo artist on the Billboard 200, and his $900 million net worth makes him the richest hip-hop artist in the world.
Check out his ridiculous car collection, which is worth chump change to him! He owns the following: ’57 Corvette C1, Alfa Romeo Spider, Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud (Beyonce’s), Pagani Zonda F, Bugatti Veyonr Grand Sport, Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet, Rolls-Royce Phantom, Ferrari F430 Spider, Maybach 57S, Bentley Continental GT, Maybach 62S, and the most expensive one-off production car ever owned, the Maybach Exelero ($8 million, once owned by Birdman).
Nelly might have lost a bit of relevance, but he’s been referred to as “one of the biggest stars of the new millennium” by Peter Shapiro, and the RIAA has ranked him as the fourth best-selling rapper in U.S. history with 21 million albums sold in the United States. In 2009, he was listed the #3 Top Artist of the Decade by Billboard. Still, he only owns a Ford Flex and a Ford Mustang. Sure, he likes to keep it practical, but where are the Bugattis and Ferraris that come with making that kind of money?
Will.i.am is best known as a founding and lead member of the group The Black Eyed Peas, but he’s also released four solo albums to great success.
He’s a producer who’s worked with such acts as Michael Jackson, Justin Bieber, Kesha, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, U2, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Nicki Minaj, and more, so he has tons of power in the music industry.
He owns two cool cars, but that’s it: a McLaren MP4-12C, which is the “entry-level” brand of McLaren, and a custom “IAMAUTO” DeLorean knock-off, which is really just a replica, and not his own car brand.
Being one of the most successful rappers of all time—even if he’s lost the plot a bit at this point, and is making headlines nowadays for all the wrong reasons—we really expected Kanye to have some of the coolest cars in the world. Hopefully he doesn’t storm the HotCars offices like he did with TMZ, for talking about him like that. He was the first to own a blacked-out Lamborghini Aventador (long before Kim Kardashian), and he owns an Aston Martin DB9, and his coolest car, a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, but that’s it.
Finally, we come to one of the most egregious missteps in hip-hop history, which is that of Dr. Dre's collection.
The rapper and producer is the third richest figure in hip-hop, with a net worth of $740 million, as of 2017, and he’s signed some of the biggest acts in the world.
But get a load of his car collection! The only four that we could find he owns are this Cadillac Escalade ESV, a Hummer H2, which is practically a waste of money, a Chrysler 300, which is nothing special, and his coolest car, a Bentley Continental GT. We expect more out of Dr. Dre, but he must really not be into cars.
