While numerous car movies premiered in the '70s and the '80s, none made the impact that the Fast and Furious did when it premiered in the early 2000s. The movie was responsible for catapulting Vin Diesel into stardom and launching the careers of several Fast and Furious cast members.

Most viewers were unaware of how popular the franchise would become while watching the first installment, as the movie spawned eight other films. Although some cars were the same in the franchise and most of the cars kept reprising their roles, audiences couldn't get enough of Dominic (Vin Diesel), Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), and Brian (Paul Walker).

Updated June 2022: After the success of Fast 9 and the tenth installment in the franchise already on the way, it's time to update this list with more of the coolest and fastest cars featured in Fast and Furious.

Since the premise of the Fast and Furious franchise is about cars, we wanted to delve into the history of all the rides to determine the most spectacular vehicles that have graced our screens. Our search led us to discover some cars that are several decades old but provide surreal performance. Some of the cars were fast but subpar when compared to the top-tier vehicles featured in the franchise. We compiled a list of the cars featured in the Fast and Furious franchise and ranked the vehicles from slowest to fastest.

27 1953 Chevrolet Fleetline

The '50 Fleetline features in the opening scene of The Fate of the Furious with Dom Toretto behind the wheel. It seems that everything that can go wrong for Dom does, as his Chevrolet Fleetline bursts into flames while he is racing the car. The top speed for a Fleetline such as this one is just 80 mph, but it can surely do twice as much with Dom behind the wheel.

According to the Telegraph, the producers used ten different Chevrolets to shoot the scene. Considering the stunts in the scene are incredible, it's not difficult to believe that it took them several cars to get the perfect shot.

The producers wanted to use a vast collection of cars and not limit the production only to muscle and supercars. Brian O'Conner drove the RS1600 in the sixth installment of the franchise. Tej Parker bought the car at a London auction.

The mechanics who worked on the car in London loved the car so much that they refused to work on an Enzo Ferrari or the Mustang while it was in the garage, as they wanted to get their hands dirty while working on the Escort. The scene with O'Conner driving the Escort to save Roman Pierce is epic.

These cars are built for cornering instead of high speeds, so they'll top out at about 115 mph.

Featured in The Fast and the Furious (2001), Jesse's heavily-modified white 1995 Jetta is one of the first cars of the franchise to capture fans' hearts. The car came with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine good for 115 horsepower from the factory, but the movie version was likely much more powerful and was equipped with nitrous. It also came with a built-in PlayStation. Stock, the car won't go past 125 mph, though.

Fun fact, the original movie car was owned by actor and racing driver Frankie Muniz and sold at a 2016 Barret Jackson auction.

24 1967 Chevrolet Camaro Z28

In the seventh installment of the franchise, Roman Pierce drives the 1967 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 during the crew's attempt to save Ramsey from the armored convoy. Since the team is unable to reach the convoy by conventional means, they have to airdrop the cars onto the Caucasus Mountain to use for pursuit. Tej Parker armored Pierce's parachute, and the air from outside the plane dragged the Chevrolet out. Anything is possible in the Fast and the Furious.

While incredibly cool, this heavily-modified off-road Z28 would probably struggle to reach the factory official 120-mph top speed.

23 1994 Acura Integra GS-R

It seems that racing runs through the blood of the Toretto family. Mia Toretto, Dom's sister, drove the Acura in the first installment of the franchise. After Brian makes an impression on Mia, she wanted to show him that she wasn't only a pretty face but also had driving skills.

Mia uses the Acura Integra to show Brian her driving skills, as she rips through the streets in Los Angeles while giving him a lift to his place. The team installed numerous modifications on the car. But stock, the 1994 Acura Integra GS-R will reach a top speed of 135 mph.

22 1971 Jensen Interceptor

McCarthy built each car while keeping the premise of the show in mind. He wanted the cars to reflect the period of the character's life in the movie. Considering that Letty Ortiz, played by Michelle Rodriguez, was going through turbulent times, McCarthy designed a dark car.

He stated that Rodriguez gave him a lot of grief for designating the Interceptor to her, as she did not enjoy the vehicle. The producers used various engines for the different scenes, but the standard engine was a 6.2-liter V8 engine, capable of pumping out 430 horsepower, according to Fast and the Furious Fandom. The Interceptor will top out at 135 mph.

21 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS

Some viewers might be baffled as to the timeline that Dom bought the Chevrolet Chevelle. Only viewers who watched the first movie to the end, after the credits, would have seen Dom drive the Chevelle.

After Dom drove off in Brian's Supra, he drove to Mexico and purchased this magnificent hotrod. Although showcased briefly in the first installment, the Chevelle makes a return in Fast & Furious, as well as the Fate of the Furious. The car is an absolute stunner. In a straight line, the 1970 Chevelle SS can reach 137 mph.

Don't let the age of this car fool you, as the bonnet boasts a beast that's ready to shatter its shackles and roar. Muscle car fans who wanted to see a classic beast roar would have enjoyed Korpi, one of Carter Verone's potential employees, arrive at Verone's property with the vehicle.

Under the bonnet was a 427 cubic inch V8 engine, capable of pumping out 425 horsepower and a top speed of 140 mph. The car featured in 2 Fast 2 Furious and the producers donated it to the Paul Walker Charity ROWW, as a tribute to the late actor.

19 2017 Subaru BRZ

Little Nobody, played by Scott Eastwood, drove the Subaru BRZ during the filming of the Fate of the Furious. To ensure that the scenes were perfect, the producers used four Subaru BRZs during the filming.

Three of the four cars survived after the director yelled, "Cut." McCarthy was impressed by that statistic, as he stated that only 25% of the cars remain in one piece after the filming. He also added that the car was a blast to drive, nimble, and did everything right. This is because it features a 2.0-liter boxer engine and one of the best steering wheels in the sports car industry. However, the BRZ puts out just 205 horsepower (with a manual transmission) and will top out at 143 mph.

18 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Using the alias Brian Earl Spilner, Brian O'Conner used the Eclipse to prepare for his first street race. Although Brian was aware of the car's complications, he partook in the race to win Dom's respect. The race went south for Brian when the Eclipse's intake manifold overheated from an overcompensation of NOS that he used in the car.

Under the bonnet of the Eclipse was a 16-valve DOHC 2-liter, 4-cylinder engine that was capable of pumping out 210 horsepower.

17 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII

Tej Parker and Brian O'Conner drive the Lancer in 2 Fast 2 Furious. The Evolution has made a name for itself in the World Rally circuit. Gamers who have played Gran Turismo would have seen several Evos feature several versions.

The franchise wasn't the only advertising that Mitsubishi got for the Evolution, as Gran Turismo helped to popularise the car in the US. To make the car fast, Brian stored NOS Bottles and NOS Wet Nitrous System.

Owen Shaw and Vegh drove the car in the sixth movie. Firuz, an auto mechanic who supplied Owen's crew, designed and manufactured two of the three custom sports cars. Although on-screen the car looked light-weight, Dennis McCarthy and the team were surprised to discover that it weighed 3,900 pounds after they assembled it.

The Flip Car had an LS3 motor, which could pump out 480 horsepower. The car features a custom tube frame and a cow catcher, as well as four-wheel steering and a V-drive transmission system.

15 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback

In an interview for WIRED, Dennis McCarthy, the man who engineered the vehicles in the franchise, stated that the Ford Mustang Fastback was one of his favorite cars. McCarthy build the car from scratch and wanted viewers to believe that the car was functional, so he instructed the director to shoot the drifting scene in Tokyo Drift with the car's bonnet open.

The team needed two months to install a Nissan Skyline GT-R engine into the Fastback. Since it has a RB26 engine under the hood producing 340 horsepower, this Mustang can easily reach 155 mph.

14 1997 Mazda RX-7 FD

Since the producers shot an installment in Tokyo, it made sense that they would feature quite a few vehicles from the area. One of the fastest cars that they showcased during the Tokyo Drift was the Mazda RX-7. Takashi confronts Han about the money he stole from his uncle, Kamata.

Han uses the RX-7 to flee, but Takashi follows him through downtown Tokyo and the Shibuya District. During the race, the car lands on the roof and explodes. The orange and black paint job made the car look sublime. This is a drift car, so top speeds will not be sky-high, but from the factory, the RX-7 was able to reach 155 mph.

Although McCarthy loved most of the cars that he built for the show, the Silvia was special to him. He stated that the car had incredible features that allowed it to drift like no other car. McCarthy added that he believed that the car was made for drifting. Since drifting was Silvia's prominent feature, McCarthy included it during the filming of Tokyo Drift. The car had a Turbocharged RB26 Skyline GT-R straight-six engine. Although Silvia gets damaged in the scene, it provided great drifting. These cars can reach a top speed of 155 mph.

12 2009 Subaru Impreza WRX STI GH

I'm not surprised that McCarthy featured the Subaru in the franchise. After all, the car has dominated the rally circuit. The WRX has proved that it can drift and propel to high speeds on a straight road. Dominic drove the Subaru but gave it to Brian after the destruction of his Nissan Skyline in the first installment.

The car also featured in the sixth installment when the racers in London gathered to see a race. A group of racers sat on the outside of the car's doors while driving it on two wheels. The top speed of a 2009 STI is 158 mph.

11 2001 Honda S2000

One of the colors that McCarthy wasn't happy to see on a car was pink. McCarthy stated that the pink Honda S2000 wasn't a sight for sore eyes, but the performance of the car made it appealing.

Suki drove the Honda S2000 in 2 Fast 2 Furious during the race that Tej Parker hosted. During most of the race, Suki struggled to keep up with the leading cars until she had to make the bridge jump. Under the bonnet was a 2-liter aluminum-alloy DOHC F20C1 inline 4 with a Comptech supercharger. Even without any mods, the S2000 will reach 160 mph stock.

10 2020 Toyota Supra

Starring in an adrenaline-fueled street chase in Fast 9 and driven by returning hero Han Seoul-Oh, the 2020 Supra is a clear nod to Brian's eponymous MKIV Supra made famous by The Fast And The Furious (2001). It even adorns a similar orange paint job, albeit with a black hood and black vinyls on the doors.

This Supra was presumably stock, featuring a factory 3.0-liter inline-six good for 335 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque. It will do 0-60 in just 3.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 163 mph without the factory limiter.

Ask McCarthy which car prominently featured in the franchise, and he'll answer, "The Skyline GTR." When one is shooting a movie that involves drag racing and drifting, leaving the GTR out of the filming is unacceptable.

The producers featured different models of the GTR throughout the franchise, but the 1999 model was the car that Brian drove in 2 Fast 2 Furious. The car boasted a 2.6-liter twin-turbo engine, which could pump out 330 horsepower. The Skyline stands next to the 1970 Dodge Charger as the flagship vehicle. These cars were limited to 155 mph, but could probably do 165 without the factory limiter.

8 1994 Toyota Supra MK IV

After Brian's Mitsubishi Eclipse exploded, he still owed Dom a ten-second car. To keep his promise to Dom, Brian gets a totaled Toyota Supra. Dom, unsatisfied with the speed of the Supra, gave the car to his crew to modify so that it could become a racing beast. The crew performed a stellar modification, making the car so fast that it could outrace a Ferrari. Dom spent $15,000 to restore the car in the movie, while McCarthy spent over $100,000 off-screen.

Being some of the most tunable cars out there, it's unclear how many ponies hide under the hood of Brian's supra, but even in its stock form, the 320-hp sports car will reach a top speed of 165 mph.
