For most of us, traveling comes with much thought in terms of how to get from one point to another, and it can either be blissful or a total nightmare, depending on how you travel and how you plan ahead of the actual trip. This includes the most enthusiastic travelers, who also get worn down by traffic, Uber drivers who have no idea where they’re going regardless of the map, crying babies, or even roadworks that delay us. What’s worse are the fuel prices and the type of car you’re driving could also contribute to a bad trip or drive in the city or highway.
But while we’re busy dealing with real-world problems, there are those in a totally different league–the rich athletes–who generally operate on a totally different plane of existence on this planet. When it comes to travel, these guys barely lift a finger. They have people around them who organize their luggage, handle their destination issues and what they eat, so they have nothing to worry about. Plus, they drive some of the best and most expensive luxury machines we only read about or aspire toward owning someday–our dreams are valid–and they don’t worry about fuel, breakdowns, oil leaks, and other ordinary life stuff like that. They travel everywhere in style, whether it’s on land, in the air, or on water. We snooped through the Instagram accounts of some top athletes, and now bring you 25 Instagram pics that show how they travel. Prepare to be amazed!
25 Carmelo Anthony
Carmelo is one of those lucky guys whose wives or girlfriends actually get them cars as gifts. He was married to his wife La La, an actress-cum-deejay, but sadly they decided to part ways and live separately. But this small forward for the Oklahoma City Thunder still has a lot going on for him. He actually made good of his life when he joined the sport as it helped him focus on doing more good than participate in the crazy stuff that happened in his neighborhood as a child. His height gave him an advantage over other kids, as this is what attracted the NBA’s attention, and today, he has enough cash to travel in luxury cars. He drives a red Jeep but also has a black 2014 Corvette Stingray that his wife got him for his 30th birthday.
24 Novak Djokovic
Serbian professional tennis player, Djokovic, is one of the top-paid athletes in the world besides being ranked among the top 15 in men’s singles tennis by the Association of Tennis Professionals.
He's won 12 Grand Slam singles titles and 30 Masters 1000 series titles and held the number one spot in the ATP rankings for a little over 4 years.
With such huge achievements, this guy is considered one of the greatest tennis pro players of all time. His earnings off the court include a ten-year incentive-laden deal with Sergio Tacchini, a clothing brand, but this was short-lived. Soon after, he got yet another endorsement deal with Uniqlo, a Japanese clothing brand. He also had a three-year deal as brand ambassador for Peugeot. He chooses to travel in his black Maserati but has also been seen with a white Audi R8, a BMW, and a Mercedes.
23 Russell Westbrook
Westbrook grew up with the hopes of going to UCLA with his childhood BFF and playing together, but that didn’t happen after his friend, Khelcey Barrs III, died during a pickup game. However, Westbrook went on to become a star NBA pro player and is currently with the Oklahoma City Thunder, and since then, he's become a multiple awardee, including being an NBA All-Star seven times in a row, a two-time NBA All-Star Game MVP, and a six-time All-NBA Team member.
He’s one of NBA’s most stylish players, which can be seen from the luxury cars he parks in his home garage, including a bright-orange Lamborghini Aventador that he paid $387,000 to own.
The car can zip from 0-60 in 2.9 seconds with a top speed of 217 mph.
22 Henrik Lundqvist
His name may be both hard to spell and to pronounce, but Henrik is known in the NHL as a professional ice hockey goaltender for the New York Rangers. He currently holds the record for the most wins by a European-born goaltender–he’s a Swedish native–and is the only goaltender in the history of the NHL to record 30-win seasons in his first 11. He has an identical twin bro, Joel, so you may see one and mistake him for the other but not when they travel because you’ll know Henrik by his cars. If he’s not driving his orange Lamborghini, he's probably riding his signature gunship grey Gallardo, with a Lundqvist badge on the rear, or his black Porsche Panamera.
21 Johnny Manziel
We’re not sure what Manziel did to his followers on Instagram because they seem to be screaming ‘focus on the job and not the fame’ more than they are praising his talent. Either way, it doesn’t change the fact that he’s rich and talented. Manziel is an American football quarterback who previously played with the Cleveland Browns for two seasons in the National Football League.
His rich lifestyle didn’t just start with playing football because he was born into a wealthy family that has interests in the Texas petroleum industry.
But Manziel’s interest was in sports. He played different games like football, basketball, golf, and baseball until his time in high school where he focused more on baseball and football, the latter of which, besides being friends with rap artist Drake, got him famous. He recently got a grey Rolls-Royce Wraith, which literally lit up his Instagram fans with joy and envy in equal measure.
20 Mesut Ozil
Ozil is a German professional footballer who plays for Arsenal FC and the Germany national team, mostly as an attacking midfielder, but sometimes, he's deployed as a winger. The soon-to-be thirty-year-old old player has been a Golden Ball Award nominee, in addition to being ranked first in assists in Major European and domestic competitions. Perhaps what he’s best remembered for is his role in the 2010 FIFA World Cup, where he led his team to the semis, though they lost to Spain, but he was only 22 years old then–and his star shone brightly from then on. Off the pitch, Ozil earns big money from sponsorship deals with Adidas, so he can comfortably maintain his German machine, the Mercedes S63 AMG. He also has a Mercedes-Benz coupe and a G-class SUV in his driveway.
19 Chris Paul
Chris is a point guard with the Houston Rockets in the NBA, and he's one of the top basketball pro players who enjoy earnings from endorsement deals with brands like Nike’s Jordan Brand, Spalding, Panini, Tencent, and FanDuel, among others. He also partnered with an automotive brand–Jeep–which for any athlete is like an ordinary person hitting the mega jackpot. He's known to own a 2014 Jeep JKU Wrangler Unlimited, with an all-white diamond pleat interior and custom CP3 embroidered headrests. But, he also has an oldskool 1979 black Monte Carlo (pictured), a restored car that’s in mint condition and is fitted with custom 24-inch rims, remote start, and three 12-inch speakers under the trunk. This is the car he showed up with to film ESPN’s Homecoming at his alma mater West Forsyth High School.
18 Cristiano Ronaldo
Real Madrid superstar player Cristiano Ronaldo may have his relationship issues, but we’re all about the cars, so let’s talk about his luxury mode of travel. The most talked-about car from his supercar collection is the brand-new, custom-made Bugatti Chiron worth a swashbuckling £2.15 million. This isn’t the first Bugatti he's owned, though.
He also has an Aston Martin DB9, a Lamborghini, a Rolls-Royce, and a Porsche Cayenne Turbo, among many others.
But the Chiron is probably the most luxurious of them all. What started as a simple test drive ended up being a deal as Ronaldo happily splurged on his new ride then took to Instagram to show off his new toy with his son in the passenger seat. The car is customized with CR7 on the headrests of the seats and is one of the fastest of his many cars with a top speed of 216 mph.
17 David Luiz
Luiz is a Brazilian professional footballer with English club Chelsea FC, where he plays as a center back but is also sometimes deployed as a defensive midfielder. This is the guy who splashed out more than 1 million pounds on luxury supercar keys for each of his teammates in celebration of Chelsea’s recent Premier League title–#teamwork! These aren't your ordinary supercar keys, by the way–he got each of them a bespoke edition of Senturion keys made especially for the whole squad, the manager Antonio Conte, and one too for the club’s owner, Roman Abramovich. Senturion is the ultimate in ultra-luxury wrist-wear car keys, and to match his fine taste, Luiz got a customized Senturion key with solid 18-carat handcrafted rose gold and 198 black diamonds, so both his Mercedes AMG G-Wagon car and key can be in sync!
16 DeMarcus Cousins
Cousins aka Boogie is an American NBA pro player with the New Orleans Pelicans. Not only does he stand tall at 6 ft 11 inches, but he also has a big heart and a kind soul. The father of two, a son and daughter, is known for his charitable acts of kindness like the one when he took 100 underprivileged youth on a holiday shopping spree, and then two days later, he surprised a family with a brand new 2016 Chevy Malibu.
His kind nature also saw him receive a surprise gift courtesy of Diamond Autosport–a custom 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass–which he's always wanted.
Alongside his Rolls-Royce Wraith, Range Rover, and matte-black Porsche Panamera, which he got as a gift from Porsche in 2012, this Cutlass is the highlight of his garage. The car is fully customized both inside and on the exterior, with a fuel-injected LS2 motor and a diamond-crusted keychain with his initials.
15 Dwight Howard
This 33-year-old is an NBA pro player for the Charlotte Hornets where he holds the center position. He’s an 8-time All-Star, 8-time All-NBA team selection, 5-time All-Defensive member, and three-time Defensive Player of the Year. With such great titles, he’s sure to attract endorsement deals and good salary packages in the industry. He also knows how to reward himself for his hard work, like on his 30th birthday, he threw a huge Great Gatsby-themed party that had huge stars like rapper T.I. Lil Boosie and teammates like James Harden, as well as his closest friends. Howard also has some sweet rides to his name like his handcrafted, fully-armored Knight XV SUV, one of only 100 ever manufactured. He’s also said to own a black Rolls-Royce Wraith, Range Rovers, a Bentley Mulsanne, a Porsche Panamera, and a Dartz Kombat T98.
14 Dwyane Wade
Besides being the husband to Being Mary Jane star actress Gabrielle Union, this 36-year-old shooting guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers has a lifestyle that oozes pop culture–and he works really hard to keep it at that. Wade, aka D-Wade or Flash, is one of those guys whose life most of us only envy and dream of with the good wife, the stunning car collection, and the fat bank account–and he makes all of this count. When he’s out and about, he usually hangs out with Gabrielle in one of his expensive supercars, among them an Aston Martin Vanquish, an Audi R8, Porsche 911, and a previously owned McLaren Mercedes M155 SLR, which he got as a gift from an exotic Miami car dealership. The McLaren had Wade Limited edition badges, plus the seats were autographed with his unique signature.
13 Adrien Broner
This guy’s Instagram page is full of photos that reveal his flashy lifestyle more than his professional career, and his followers keep reminding him to stay focused.
Broner is a 29-year-old American professional boxer who has held titles such as the WBO junior lightweight title from 2011-2012, the WBC lightweight title from 2012-2013, the WBA welterweight title in 2014, and WBA light welterweight title from 2015-2016–this makes him a four-weight world champ!
He was previously ranked as the fifth-best active boxer in the world by The Ring magazine in 2012, so clearly, he works hard for his money. Broner had, at some point, posted scary images hinting at suicide in 2016, but he lived to see another day and ride in his awesome Ferrari.
12 Floyd Mayweather
Mayweather is a holder of multiple world titles and winner of so many awards, which he amassed from his professional boxing career. He’s also been ranked by ESPN as the greatest boxer, pound for pound, of the last 25 years and is often referred to as history’s best defensive boxer. He’s also one of the most lucrative attractions of all time, which means he also gets paid pretty well compared to others in the industry. In fact, Forbes and Sports Illustrated have listed him as one of the highest-paid athletes in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015, which means he can afford to finance all his fine homes plus his supercars and lifestyle. When he travels by road, he rides in a Rolls-Royce Phantom but also has a Mercedes-Benz, a Lamborghini, a Bugatti, and Ferraris, all of which are white in color.
11 Maria Sharapova
Maria Sharapova, known for her prowess in tennis, is among the top paid female athletes in the world. The Russian tennis pro player is also a brand ambassador for Porsche, so naturally, she’d own one, too. She’s taken so many photos with top Porsche rides, a sleek sports car perfect for the sunny days and for speed freaks, too. Hers is a red Porsche 911 Cabriolet. She also helped design a legendary Porsche with her moniker on the Panamera GTS as a way of showcasing custom and personalized elements like interior stitching, colors, and special wheels. Sharapova’s customized Panamera GTS comes with glossy, black LED headlights, tinted rear lights, a black tailpipe covering the sports exhaust, and 20-inch sports wheels. It goes from 0-60 in just 4.2 seconds with a top speed of 179 mph.
10 Justin Verlander
Verlander is the fourth-highest-paid Major League Baseball player by salary, taking home a whopping $28 million. He plays for the Houston Astros as a pitcher but was with the Detroit Tigers previously for about 13 seasons, and from there, he made his debut to the major league in 2005. Off the pitch, Verlander also makes money from endorsement deals, which affords him a posh residence in the plush Beverly Hills in California. However, during the off-season, he lives in Lakeland, Florida and has a hard time deciding which car to travel in when he wants to go to the training facility–first world problems indeed! So, he rides different cars, among them a Ford GT, a red Ferrari 488, a blue Audi R8, and a Lamborghini.
9 Michelle Wie
While Wie may not be your everyday most-talked-about athlete if you compare her to the likes of Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova, she still is one of the top-earning pro athletes in the world.
She’s a professional golfer playing on the LPGA Tour, and she started out at the young age of 10 years and became the youngest to qualify for a USGA amateur championship.
She won her first major at the U.S. Women’s Open in 2014. Her car may be little, but it's famous in many ways. Thanks to her association with Kia Motors, Wie’s little inferno-red car inspired the creation or customization of a custom model, which was displayed at the 2011 SEMA Show. The custom Soul was built by West Coast Customs and named the "Hole-in-One." Wie has been Kia’s official golf ambassador since 2010.
8 Paul Pogba
So, this guy is very ready to quit playing for the Red Devils if the coach, Jose Mourinho, stays on. Okay, they’re at loggerheads at the moment if media reports are anything to go by, but it seems ‘The Chosen One’ has gone beyond Pogba’s patience limit, and he won’t hear any more of it–he’s ready to leave Manchester United ASAP! Well, what we do know is he’s not ready to quit his lavish and expensive lifestyle. Pogba, who's been named one of Europe’s best dribblers, has an active Instagram account where he posts insane shots of his cars, match highlights, and his unique hairstyles. He’s also posted this really cool pic of his insane white Lamborghini, but he also has a red Chevy Camaro, a Rolls-Royce Black Badge, and a juiced-up Audi sports car.
7 Tom Brady
Brady is perhaps one of the richest players in the NFL with the highest number of luxury supercars in his garage. This guy not only makes money off his salary but also really big endorsement deals like those with Ugg, Tag Heuer, and the current one with upscale automotive brand Aston Martin.
This British car is the ultimate in luxury cars, and Brady, who's a longtime customer of the brand, now drives the all-new 2017 Aston Martin DB11 worth $215,000.
The Patriots quarterback also gets to design his own version of Aston Martins, which he won’t own but will be sold to twelve other people who will part with $360,000 for each of the dark-blue convertibles with Dark Knight interiors.
6 Rickie Fowler
Rick Yutaka Fowler is a professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour and was the number one amateur golfer globally for 37 straight weeks in 2007 and 2008. His middle name, Yutaka, was given him from his maternal grandfather, who is Japanese, but his maternal grandmother is American. He’s the guy you find wearing orange during the final days of golf tournaments, a tradition he's held in honor of Oklahoma State University where he went to after high school in California. He's part of the Golf Boys group that released a YouTube video of Oh Oh Oh, the proceeds of which went to charity. When he’s taking a drive out to some place, he prefers to ride in one of his three cars: a white Mercedes, another wine-red Mercedes, or his silver Mercedes GT-S–the showstopper among the three of them. He's a brand ambassador for Mercedes-Benz, which is an official PGA of America partner, so naturally, he'd drive Mercedes.
5 Serena Williams
The smile on this girl's face tells it all. Serena Jameka Williams, or should we call her "Mrs. Ohanian," is a professional tennis player with so many achievements, we'd need a lot of time and space to cover each of them—but that's not what we're here for, lol. So, she's the highest-paid female athlete in the world, with earnings of over $160 million, plus she has major brand endorsement deals with huge names like Beats By Dre, Pepsi, Chase Bank, IBM, Mini, Intel, and many more. But her big automotive deal is the one with Aston Martin, which is what's got her all excited in this photo. She received a white Aston Martin as a gift, and its price range is between $118,650 to $200,000—even I would do a salsa dance just for this—lucky girl! She also has a red Bentley Continental GT.
4 Fernando Alonso
Alonso is a double World Champion in the Formula One racing arena and currently races for the McLaren F1 team. He's usually regarded as one of the greatest F1 drivers in the history of the sport. His love for cars started way back at the age of 3 when he started karting, and, as time went by, his talent continued to shine more, which saw him win three consecutive karting championships in his home country, Spain.
He joined Formula One in the 2001 season, and life has never been better for him.
His dad was actually an amateur kart racer who worked as a mechanic in an explosives factory, so he picked up a lot about karting from here. His list of amazing supercars includes a vibrant-orange McLaren 650S, a Ferrari 458, and a Ferrari FF, plus a Honda Civic Type R.
3 Caroline Wozniacki
Caroline is a Danish tennis pro player currently ranked as the world number two and was a former world number one in singles in the WTA Tour. She’s actually the first female from a Scandinavian country to hold both positions. Her first Grand Slam title was won at the 2018 Australian Open, which placed her back at the number-one ranking in January. She was in a relationship with Northern Irish pro golfer Rory McIlroy for about three years, after which their engagement ended, but on Valentine’s Day last year, cupid’s arrow pierced her heart once again, and she’s now engaged to former NBA champion David Lee. When she’s not flying by plane, she’s driving her black Maserati–what most girls only dream of–but she also has a Mercedes.
2 Stephen Curry
Curry is a professional basketball player who plays as a point guard for the Golden State Warriors. He’s known to hang out with the high and mighty, and he even had a role in the administration of the former POTUS Barack Obama.
His fleet of cars include SUVs, coupes, and sports cars, but he seems to have a favorite among all of these, which you find next to him in many photos on social media–a Mercedes G-class.
However, he also has a Porsche GT3 RS, which has a really cool interior, and the engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. He also has a Porsche Panamera, with a V8 engine, and black Mercedes G55 AMG. He’s no longer welcome at the White House, but, well, he’s still ballin’.
1 Usain Bolt
Known as the fastest man in the world, Usain Bolt broke so many records, which saw him win fistfuls of medals and pick up some valuable commercial deals in the process. The 31-year-old recently announced that he would be joining football and has even hinted at which team he’ll be playing for, so his name isn't about to go away just like that. It would be a great comeback, but who knows? Bolt’s taste for cars is unique, judging from the tricked-out Jeep Wrangler Avorza worth $325,000 that he got customized for himself. He also has a Nissan GT-R special edition given to him, which has 542 bhp and runs from 0-62 in just 2.8 seconds–we think he can run faster than his own car. The interior is white with a Bose sound system, and it's fitted with ten-spoke RAYS forged alloy wheels.
