The off-roader is an incredible machine, there's no disputing that fact. Some would even go so far as to say that it's the most advanced example of a vehicle, the pinnacle of motoring engineering. While that may be disputed, it's true that the capabilities some of the best off-roaders have are truly jaw dropping, going places with ease that would be difficult even on foot. There are a lot of off-roaders and 4x4's, from brands like Toyota, Jeep, Land Rover, and more, that are quite incredible off the road, straight off the manufacturing line. But the serious capabilities start to come into play when aftermarket modifications come into the picture. That is, if they're done right, with off-roading capabilities foremost in mind. With discerning, quality upgrades, a world of off-roading possibilities opens up.

There may be no off-road vehicle that is more iconic, well known, or at home without a road than the Jeep. With roots reaching back through much of US history, and a genesis during a war, the Jeep is a warrior of a machine that has stoically stood the rigors of time. The brand has even become so successful that many people never use their Jeep off of the road, even offering models that aren't designed for it.

With that in mind, let's take things a little further, and take a look at some emasculated Jeeps, the kind of creations that make their Jeep brothers ashamed. Let's take a look at 25 modded Jeeps that have never seen the trail, and never should.

24 A Sound System With Wheels

via pinterest.com

If it isn't exactly clear, this Jeep wasn't designed with off-roading in mind, not really at all. The wheels are technically designed for it, but it's clear that it's just for aesthetics. The huge rims are the kind of rims you don't want to get dirty. And they look like they've never seen more than road dust, if that.

The focus of this Jeep is clearly on the sound system, where they've taken the entire back section of the Jeep and turned it into an elaborate speaker system. This goes to show that they're more about sound than they are Jeeps.

23 Well, It Has A Lift Kit

via cheatsheet.com

There are so many things about this Jeep that aren't logical. Every part if it is so over the top as to render it completely useless on the trail and off the road.

The giant lift kit, first off, renders this Jeep top heavy, ungainly, and subject to easy breaking. The fancy rims and gimmicks, like the hot pink brush guard, huge hooks, endless light bars, and completely impractical doors, are just the beginning of all the things that tell us this Jeep has never seen a trail.

The pink accessories underneath, and the fact that every part of the underbody is spotless further prove the point.

22 Lowered Woody

via cardomain.com

This is an old Grand Wagoneer, one of the most luxurious Jeeps made in its time, and one of my all time favorite cars. There's just something about their timeless class and rugged quality that makes them awesome cars. And while the Grand Wagoneer isn't the most trail going of all the Jeeps, it has some pretty incredible capabilities off-road, even with its rather seasoned age.

Of course, that all goes away when you lower the suspension and add big brushed steel rims. Doesn't mean that this doesn't look cool, though. Because, you have to admit, it kind of does.

21 White, Red, And Bred For Asphalt

via dubmagazine.com

This Jeep is all about an immediate impression. Perfectly shiny tires, spotlessly polished rims that coordinate perfectly with the red undercarriage accessories and the white paint, every detail is coordinated to look flawless. But Jeeps aren't supposed to be flawless. They're supposed to be rugged, well used, and be able to take you up a mountain without having to worry if its hair will get messed up or its clothes will get dirty.

The impracticality of this Jeep on the trail is highlighted best by the fact that they removed the spare wheel entirely.

20 Is It A Toy Car?

via trucktrend.com

Slammed Jeeps are an entire sub-culture built around taking what is normally an extraordinarily adept off-roader and rendering it completely useless in this regard by giving them "stance". While this renders them impractical, that's not a basis on which to judge a car mod, as there are plenty out there, if not a majority, that tend to remove the practicality from a car, sometimes first and foremost. Especially this is true with stanced cars, no matter what kind.

So yeah, this Jeep can't go on an off-roading trail any time soon, but it's been transformed to look like something entirely different.

19 Pretend Off-Roader

via carid.om

The biggest hint about this Jeep's utter lack of off-road capability is the size of the rims. Cracking a rim on the trail is basically a death sentence. So while you want big wheels, the majority of the size needs to come from the tires.

These rims would crack in the first half-mile, if it could make it that far.

There are other hints too, like the completely unnecessary secondary light bar, and the plain-to-see fact that this Jeep isn't anywhere near the landscape in the background, where every other Jeep would be, but rather in a perfectly paved parking lot.

18 Not Even A Hood

via reddit.com

It's clear that this Jeep Wrangler should never see an off-roading trail, and never has. The most off-roading that this Jeep has ever done was to drive across the grass to its spot in this car show. Hopefully on their way out they don't drive over a sprinkler head or a pinecone, they might get a flat tire, or crack their rim.

This Jeep is definitely a unique ride, they've opted for the biggest rims imaginable, all chrome accessories, no hood, and a plush orange interior.

It all adds up to create a ride that will never have a use for its four wheel drive.

17 Frankenstein Jeep

via roadkill.com

This old Jeep monstrosity is clearly the kind of Jeep that wasn't designed with off-roading or four wheeling in mind. The extended length to allow for more passengers means that this Jeep has been converted into a bus. Most buses aren't the best when it comes to off-road terrain.

Despite the massive changes and adaptations, this Jeep is still quite practical, with a spare tire and roof racks that no doubt get a lot of use. It's more practical than a lot of the city-slicker Jeeps we've featured. Except for the bald tires, which are plain unsafe.

16 Iron Man's Compass

via pinterest.com

I'm not sure if they were going for an Iron Man color scheme theme, but even if they weren't, they succeeded in doing so. With the same color of red and the yellow light accessories, it looks like it's trying to imitate Iron Man. Though Tony Stark would never own or use such an abomination.

With cheap aftermarket rims and low profile tires, this is definitely a street Jeep.

The fact that it's one of the least Jeep-like models out there only adds to its bastardization. This is essentially a very tall and lumpy Chrysler sedan. Not a Jeep at all, then.

15 Everything But The Wheels

via reddit.com

This is one of the strangest Jeep Wranglers I've yet seen. There's something indescribably disturbing that everything about it is still stock, except for the low profile rims. I'm used to seeing these kinds of rims on a Wrangler that's been decked out to match the theme, with slick paint and over the top accessories. The only accessory on this Jeep is the tow hitch attached to the front, which only makes things weirder.

It's clear that this Jeep is only ever hauled around by another truck or RV of some kind and driven around on errands. How sad.

14 It Can't Be Unseen

via wranglerforum.com

I'm not sure what exactly is happening with this outrageous Jeep mod. There's two extra wheels on the front, obviously that's clear. Things become a little more fuzzy when trying to understand why someone would do that to their Jeep. It makes no sense. It's even crazier that the extra wheels are on the front end, which makes everything about it so much more complicated.

The saddest part about this strange Jeep monstrosity is that it's a classic Jeep model, a CJ-7, more of a collector vehicle than many other Jeeps. And it's been ruined, frankly.

13 Gimmicks Galore

via reddit.com

This extraordinarily outrageous and over the top Jeep looks like a strange, geometric version of a Cheeto. Or Garfield. Either way, everything about this Jeep is one big gimmick. There's a reason not every off-roader looks like this, in fact I would wager virtually none of the actually good ones look anything like this.

The bodywork is completely unnecessary and just adds extra weight.

The fenders, doors, the strange cables for the hood, the tiny windshield that ruins visibility. It all points to a poser Jeep like no other. Funnily enough, the thing that bothers me most is the red stars in the rims. They don't match.

12 Wrangler On Stilts

via flickr.com

These Jeep builds just look so uncomfortable and awkward, like they're on stilts, or like a giraffe wearing high heels.

The giant spokes and the impossibly low profile tires just make these Wranglers look so strange and unbalanced.

I know that's just my opinion, but the bodywork was designed to compliment an off-roader kind of style, not a slick, donk style. But, to each his own, I know that this is quite a big community and it's clear a lot of passion goes into these builds. They'll never see an off-roading trail, though. Probably a good thing.

11 No Taller Than Fresh Mown Grass

via trucktrend.com

This Jeep is never, ever, ever going to be able to accomplish any sort of off-roading. And it definitely never should.

If it isn't obvious, the ride height is a bit of an issue, along with the chrome rims and almost nonexistent tires.

Their goal in modifying this Jeep is significantly different than the goal of many off-roaders with their Jeeps, so it's logical to expect a different kind of car entirely. But, since Jeeps are four wheel drive off-road vehicles, there's an element of that in these builds, which makes them, at least initially, seem really silly.

10 Mini Truck Jeep

via moibbk.com

The car culture of mini trucks is one that is getting more and more dated every year, yet still garners quite a large following of enthusiasts. It's understandable, something about the smaller trucks lends itself fairly well to some serious stance. Which is evident quite clearly with this Jeep Comanche. It has some seriously low stance, and some inset chrome wheels that fit the theme.

I'm just wondering why the gas cap is red, and I'm also vaguely curious, and worried, as to what happened to the windshield, more poignantly why there isn't one.

via gamefaqs.gamespot.com

I'm really not sure what's going on here, or what the end goal for this build was. To have the axle and steering arms out in front of the bumper just doesn't seem smart to me. In fact it seems unsafe and impractical. The ride height is impossibly low, and the windshield is tinted way beyond what is legal. Though I guess that's not the only illegal mod on it.

What makes this build worse though are the cheap rims. They ruin the whole image, a build centered around its exposed wheels. They have to be show-stopping, otherwise it doesn't work. And it doesn't.

8 Low Rider In Red

via pinterest.co.kr

The rims on this Jeep are pretty unique, brushed steel and not excessively over the top. That and the straight red color make this build fairly conservative, considering the other mods we've already featured. But that's what makes this Jeep so bad, is the lack of effort. It's mostly stock, except for the ride height and rims.

It needs more character, because like this it just looks boring, unremarkable, and strange.

As every lowered Jeep does, considering what it was actually designed for. Of all the cars to stance, though, a mediocre Chrysler SUV is as good a choice as any.

7 Neon Undercarriage On Stilts

via carid.com

The undercarriage of this Jeep is lit up in neon purple, which further accentuates its city slicker, spotless, never been off-roading style.

With massive aftermarket rims and a bubbly teal paint job, paired with all chrome accessories, this is one Jeep that couldn't be further from its trail going brothers.

It's kind of a confusing picture, because everything about the build screams metropolis, but it's out in a field somewhere, which seems like an incongruity. This Jeep belongs amongst skyscrapers and city highways, cruising with those lights on all night long. Definitely not on a 4WD trail.

6 Like Spinning Plates

via zombdrive.om

These are some seriously over the top rims. I'm not sure I've seen more outrageous rims on a sports car, where they're usually fitted. At the very least this can keep up with the competition. This Jeep has gone from off-roader SUV to total donk, with massive rims and low profile tires. This build is all about the rims, and not much else.

While its location in a suburban driveway seems strange, at least they had the eye for detail enough to change out the door handles for some chrome ones that match the massive UFO rims.

5 Porcelain White Like Snow

via carburetor.me

This person for whatever reason decided to make their entire Jeep white. Maybe it's their favorite color, or maybe they just like things to be clean, so in an effort to never take their Jeep off the asphalt and to keep it without even a speck of dirt, they modded it out to be completely white, like a nurse's outfit, or a hospital.

The massive rims speak louder than anything else: this Jeep has never seen the trail, no doubt never will, and really probably shouldn't.

It could prove to be very expensive to replace all four cracked rims.
