SUVs typically don’t go out of their way and challenge sports cars and supercars on the road or even on the track. But these hyper SUVs did just that, when they took part in the Tilal Swaihan Mile race in the United Arab Emirates, as they are capable of reaching more than 200 mph in just a half a mile. CB Media identified some of them, and these SUVs are nothing less than ridiculous.

Hyper SUVs At Tilal Swaihan Mile Race

In the past few years, SUVs have gone from being utilitarian to being high-speed movers. This led to the rise of super SUVs such as the Lamborghini Urus, Bentley Bentayga Speed, Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid, Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk and Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat. These super SUVs have at least 600 hp to their credit, but they pale in comparison with the SUVs in the Tilal Swaihan Mile Race Championship in Abu Dhabi.

The Tilal Swaihan Mile played host to a couple of modified SUVs – three of which are heavily tinkered Nissan Patrol models. In stock form, a Patrol could never dream to be as powerful as the 710 hp Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat. However, the Patrols in the Tilal Swaihan Mile race are three to four times more powerful than Stellantis’ super SUV.

One of the modified SUVs in the half-mile event was an all-black Nissan Patrol with its factory engine. But with proper diet and massive turbochargers providing crushing boost to its 4.8-liter inline-six engine, this black Patrol can deliver around 2,700 hp of output. A blue-and-black Nissan Patrol also raced in the event, boosted with Motec’s standalone management system.

A famous Nissan Patrol likewise graced the event. This SUV became a celebrity after leaving a Porsche 918 in the dust in The Grand Tour. This super SUV is essentially a Patrol with the drivetrain (and front end) of a Nissan R35 GT-R. Its tuners have updated the 4.1-liter (stroked) VR38DETT engine to deliver more power than when it schooled the 918. During the Tilal Swaihan Mile event, this Patrol was making around 2,400 hp of output.

The performances of the modified SUVs in the half-mile event were overwhelming – all of them went faster than 200 mph. The 918-killing Patrol completed the half mile in a trap speed of 219.83 mph, while the Motec Patrol did it with 214.59 mph. The 2,700 hp Patrol was the fastest among the three, recording 221.23 mph.
