It has been nearly a year since Hennessey Performance sold out all its Venom F5 supercars. Yet, top honcho John Hennessey and his team are in the United Kingdom for a cross-Atlantic tour. In fact, British car enthusiast and YouTuber Mat Watson of CarWow managed to not just closely inspect and also drive the Venom F5.

Venom F5: American Muscle In Hypercar Form

Interestingly, other automotive personalities such as Top Gear have also driven the Hennessey Venom F5 and its monstrous sibling, the Hennessey Mammoth 1000. Mat, one of the more famous YouTubers in the UK, received an invitation to test drive a Venom F5 and experience the dynamics of American muscle in a much sleeker form. Indeed, as Mat pointed out, the Venom even has the flags of the U.S. and Texas.

Serving as the core of the Venom F5 is a rear-mid-mounted 6.6-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that delivers 1,817 hp at 8,000 rpm. Amazingly, this engine is pulling a lightweight machine tipping the scales at just 2,998 lbs. The Venom F5 actually boasts a power-to-weight ratio that is the highest of any road car – allowing it to sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 2.6 seconds.

Mat, however, wasn’t able to do a 0-62 mph clocked run of the Venom F5. It appears that Hennessey brought a development model which has spec disparities from the production version. This model already belongs to a customer who apparently cannot wait for the final version. Because of this, it comes with several issues that Hennessey claims it ironed out for the final version.

As brutally honest as he is, Mat pointed out these issues. For instance, he remarked that the Venom F5’s fueling is a bit jerky. The noise is also a bit loud and the suspension is firm. He also notes the steering is a bit meaty and the gearbox is a little jolty. A number of annoying things he also adds are some elements on the interior, windshield, and taillights.

During a test run, the Venom F5 went as fast as 271.6 mph. But Mat pointed out that considering the hypercar’s power, gearing, weight, and drag, the Venom F5 can achieve a top speed of 334 mph. With that in mind, Hennessey’s goal, for now, is to set a new record at around 310 mph.

Although Hennessey has sold out of the Venom F5 out. they are offering a Roadster variant. Around 30 examples are up for grabs.
