These days, just about every Toyota is either a pickup truck, SUV, or a front-wheel-drive commuter car. Okay, so there's also the newly revived Supra, but let's face it, it's really a BMW in disguise.

But older Toyotas have proven popular among the modern drifting crowd thanks to their low weight and nimble chassis, as proven by a supercharged AE86 out of Uruguay driven by professional drifter Fernando Montero. And the sound of Montero's Vortec V-2 blower working to boost a fifth-gen Toyota BEAMS engine sounds absolutely glorious in the video below (turn up the volume on this one).

One Angry Snake

The powerplant sounds like a screaming snake in the clip, which features a camera being held right up to where the drive belt can be seen rotating the supercharger's pulley. All in, the 2.0-liter engine—which is reportedly still running on stock internals with titanium valves—now produces 402 horsepower at 7,800 RPM with the boost cranked up to 14.5 pounds. That should be more than enough to motivate the stripped little 'Yota, no matter the rest of the mods.

That power is routed to the rear wheels through a five-speed stick-shift gearbox with an Ogura twin-disc clutch, on the way to an eight-inch rear end equipped with a TRD-sourced limited-slip differential. Keeping the engine bay so clean must take up a ton of time given how quickly Montero shreds tires in a series of Facebook posts and YouTube videos.

Complementary modifications include a set of Hyperco springs, HTS shocks courtesy of Tokico, and a four-link rear suspension system. Braking is handled by TRD four-piston calipers at the front and two-piston calipers out back clamping down on 300mm rotors at all four corners.
