This Hurst Olds Build Got Kinda Out Of Hand

First off, there’s a reason why the car says “Hurst/Olds” on the side skirt. Because technically, that’s what this car is inside. Deep, deep inside, this is a 1984 Hurst Olds. Owner/designer Rod Tschiggfrie, also known as Xrod, says the front pillar still carries the original VIN of the car.

But that’s where any resemblance to the Hurst Olds ends because everything else is custom-built to turn a classic car into a street-legal race car. Though Tschiggfrie admits, over time it got out of hand and became more race car than a street, considering it can run 300 MPH, if not more.

The Sorceress may be a crazy-looking car, but it’s also the fastest street-legal built in North America, so that’s saying something.

An 8-Year-Long Oldsmobile Build

Tschiggfrie points out where you can see the original body line of the Hurst Olds, as an Oldsmobile 442, and where the build begins. Although he admits, there were times they had to bring in the professionals. Mike Spitzer of Spitzer Enterprises chipped in, with the actual build. Amazingly, the Sorceress is a multi-flex fuel vehicle. This means it can run on regular fuel, unleaded gas, and even high-octane, or better still, a blend of these.

But most of all, the Sorceress aims to be fast and aerodynamically efficient, which is why it can do a quarter-mile in 5.80 seconds, at upwards of 260 MPH.

The chassis is hand-built from the ground up using chrome tubing with all the requisite NHRA certifications. It rides on DOT tires and while the car may be an old soul, the insides are modern and carry a GPS, a music system, power windows, and even cup holders. Hopefully, the latter keep a hot drink steady during a drag race. Ultimately, it's the other drivers in a race that should feel the heat, not at the driver of the Sorceress himself, right?

Such a special car needs a special engine. In went, a custom-designed almost 10.5-liter V8 engine, designed by Tschiggfrie and funny car champion Fred Mandoline. Need we say more?
