The Honda Prelude was a sports car that was loosely derived from the Honda Accord and was part of Honda's lineup from 1978 to 2001. Like many Japanese cars, over the years it has become an ideal machine for modifying and letting people unleash their visions onto it. Maybe you wouldn’t expect it to be on track with the likes of a Corvette or a Mitsubishi Evo. But that’s exactly what this Prelude is doing in this video from Hoonigan Autofocus. With its 600+ hp Turbo H22 and even Boeing 747 parts, it can battle it out with those exact machines.
Highlight Is The Epic Turbo H22 Engine
This car has been owned by Cory Wells, who also built the car up from a bone stock 60,000 miler and has owned it since 2003. It is constantly evolved to squeeze as much performance out of it as possible. The highlight of this car though is that H22 engine that has been beautifully turbo’d up.
Engine Swap Allows This Car To Produce Over 600 HP
The SH engine was swapped for a baseline H22 motor. It now has a K-Series intake manifold and throttle body. To the wheels, it makes around 640 hp on a mild boost. To get that power onto the ground, the Prelude has GT-R wheels and 315 tires in the front. In the rear of the car are 9.5-inch wheels with 255 tires. This is all about getting the car to rotate and be a bit loose at the rear, to get the best laptime possible.
Boeing 747 Aero Parts Are Another Awesome Feature
But these might not even be the features that make this car so cool. The Prelude is even fitted with parts from a Boeing 747. On the front fenders of the car, there is a carbon honeycomb from a 747 that was sitting in a scrapyard somewhere. And it's not just for show either, this part works, as do all the other aero pieces on the car. Wells tried to take influence from Formula 1 and IndyCar to get the most performance out of the car as possible. You might not think that the Prelude is a time attack car, but this one might just be reinventing that philosophy.
