In the last 10 years or so, the hypercar market has expanded. Previously exceptionally rare, more hypercar manufacturers are now exploring the market. Perhaps, the drive towards hybrid and electric powertrains has provided an opportunity for more experimentation and has led to an expansion. For many buyers of such cars, they are just as interested in becoming part of an elite community of owners as they are in actually possessing the car. Hypercars provide a means of meeting like-minded people, and they are ultimately a lifestyle choice filling the role of a hobby. Here are some of the most eagerly anticipated upcoming models.
8 Aston Martin Valhalla
Aston Martin's upcoming hypercar looks set to be released in 2024. The Valhalla will be powered by a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 mounted in a mid-engined configuration. In combination with the engine, a battery will form a hybrid system, producing 937 hp. Aston Martin says the car will have an estimated top speed of 217 mph and a 0-60 mph time of below 2.5 seconds.
Aston Martin is rumored to be producing 999 examples, each retailing for around $800,000. Providing stopping power will be carbon-ceramic brakes, as standard fitment. The car makes extensive use of carbon fiber, forming the central tub and engine cover.
7 Mercedes-AMG One
The Mercedes AMG Project One is the brainchild of Mercedes engineers. The car seeks to utilize Formula 1 derived technology and deliver it in a road-legal package. The car is effectively powered by the same hybrid powertrain found in a Mercedes Formula 1 car. The setup is formed by a 1.6-liter V6 engine combined with an electric motor. The combustion engine powers the rear wheels providing them with over 500 kW of power. The front wheels meanwhile are provided with power by two 120 kW electric motors. In total, the AMG One produces 740 kW of power or over 1000 hp. The power load is passed to the wheels through an automated 8-speed manual gearbox.
The car's interior is also a special place to be, the design demonstrating its link to motorsport. The car is fitted with contoured bucket seats and there are driver-focused freestanding 10-inch displays. The steering wheel is particularly eye-catching, being the same shape as an F1 Car. Production is rumored to begin in the middle of 2022.
6 Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut
The upcoming Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut will be the ultimate Koenigsegg to exist, both now and in the future. According to Koenigsegg, they will never intend to produce a faster road-legal car. It will be the most extreme version of the Jesko hypercar. To achieve high speeds, the car has been aerodynamically refined to produce the lowest drag coefficient possible. The bodywork has been softened and smoothed, and the car loses its rear wing. According to Koenigsegg, the car's drag coefficient has been reduced from 0.28 to 0.278 Cd, a feat that took more than 3000 wind tunnel hours.
The car is fitted with a twin-turbo V8 that produces a massive 1,600 hp. Koenigsegg is hoping the car will break the 300 mph barrier, however, the top speed has not yet been verified. To increase the speed even further, removable wheel covers can be put on, increasing the top speed by around 4-5 mph.
5 Bugatti Chiron SuperSport
The Bugatti Chiron SuperSport looks set for a 2022 release date. The car will be an ultra-exclusive version of what is already an already exclusive car. The original Chiron was released in 2017 as a replacement for the Veyron. The car will have a price tag of $3,825,000, for this, the buyer will get a 1578 hp monster. Powering the car is an 8.0 liter W16 that has been boosted to provide 1,600 hp.
The SuperSport has a top speed of 273 mph and 0-62 mph takes just 2.5 seconds. The car has four turbochargers, consequently, 0-200 mph takes only 14.8 seconds. Connecting the SuperSport to the ground are bespoke Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s. These tires are able to cope with the demands placed on them by the Chiron's all-wheel-drive system. Each tire is even subject to X-ray examination in the factory to check they are up to the job.
4 Lotus Evija
The upcoming Lotus Evija will be a fully electrically powered hypercar. Set for release within the 2022 model year, the Evija could map out a template for future electric hypercars. The car will have an estimated $2,300,000 list price, so not it's not cheap. The Evija is the quickest Lotus ever built, powered by four electric motors producing a total 1972 hp. Like many Lotus cars, there is a strong emphasis placed on handling, and being lightweight is a prerequisite. At around 3700 pounds, the Evija is the lightest hypercar to ever enter production.
The car's top speed is estimated to be around 200 mph, with 0-62 mph taking under 3 seconds. There will be 5 selectable driving modes, helping ensure optimum performance in all conditions. The high-performance Lotus does come with some downsides, one of these is the battery draining quickly under heavy usage. On the plus side, the car's charging system can top ut to 80% charge in 12 minutes and 18 minutes for a full charge, so you won't need to wait too long.
3 Pininfarina Battista
Pininfarina has long been known for styling some of the most beautiful Italian sports cars. The brand is now branching out into the hypercar market with its German subsidiary Automobili Pininfarina GmbH. Production will be limited to 150 examples and a bespoke customization service means each car will be unique.
The car's internals are based heavily on Rimac derived parts. The car is set to produce 1,900 hp with two 340 hp electric motors powering the front wheels and two 611 hp motors for the rears. 0-62 mph takes just 1.9 seconds and 0-186 mph is achieved in 12 seconds. A 120 kWh battery is likely to produce around 310 miles of range.
2 Lexus Electric Hypercar
Lexus has announced it will only manufacture electric vehicles from 2035. The brand has already started working on an electric hypercar to be released before 2030. The new car will have a target 0-62 mph time of below two seconds and a range of over 400 miles.
The car will aim to satisfy the fans of the Lexus LFA, providing excellent handling and levels of driver engagement. Lexus has clearly thought ahead by developing this new performance electric car, given the upcoming restrictions on combustion engines, gearheads will be looking to get a thrill from these next-generation vehicles. The images of the prototype vehicle suggest it is set to be a looker.
1 Bugatti Bolide
The Bugatti Bolide is a track-focused hypercar and would be Bugatti's fastest, lightest, and most powerful car. The Bolide was first unveiled in 2020, although development has not yet concluded, Bugatti is working towards a 2024 release date. The car is likely to be powered by the firm's 8.0 liter W16 engine producing 1,850 PS. Weighing only 1,240 kilograms, the Bolide has a power to weight ratio of 0.67 kg per PS. This is a figure similar to that of a Formula 1 car.
The car's top speed is set to be above 500 km/h or 310.6 mph. Bugatti states the car is the modern interpretation of the 1920s Bugatti Type 35, a car that took over 2000 victories in racing. Bugatti's main aim with the Bolide is to showcase their W16 in a pure form. Only the basics such as a steering wheel, 4 wheels, engine, gearbox, and two seats are included, this is not a luxury car.
