Ferrari has a long history of rivalry against McLaren, predominantly in international motorsport. However, since the introduction of the McLaren MP4-12C in 2011, that rivalry now mostly happens on the street. Whether you're a fan of either brand, you can't deny they make some of the best-performing supercars on the road.

In a recent video from the YouTube channel DragTimes, two of the latest offerings from each manufacturer go head to head to see which is the fastest at the drag strip.

About The 2 Supercar Contenders

The Ferrari F8 Tributo replaced the 488 with production beginning in 2019. The F8 boasts a 3.9-liter, twin-turbocharged engine making 710 hp, the most powerful V8 Ferrari ever made. The F8 in this video has an upgraded exhaust system and an engine tune to produce 850 hp.

McLaren has gone from strength to strength since the MP4-12C. In 2020, the British company introduced a performance version of its successful 720S model. This McLaren 765LT holds a 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 with an output of 765 hp.

Although on paper, the McLaren appears to have the upper hand over the stock Ferrari. However, the modifications provide the F8 with more than a fighting chance.

Before the first race, the McLaren enables rolling burnout mode. Here, the 765LT can spin up the rear wheels and create a burnout through a pre-programmed function. This helps to warm up the tires ahead of the race.

Off the line, the McLaren makes a slightly better launch but is barely ahead going into the second stage of acceleration. As each car changes through the gears, the Ferrari is visibly harsher on the shifts, resulting in the 765LT gradually pulling further away. The first race sees an easy win for the less powerful McLaren.

In the second race, we get a virtual carbon copy of the previous run. The McLaren makes a slightly better start, and like in the first race, the powerful second stage of acceleration from the 765LT is too much for the F8 Tributo, and the McLaren runs away for a second consecutive win.

Into the third race, the Ferrari driver appears to make an impressive reaction but later concedes the race due to jumping the start. Despite officially winning the overall competition with 3 race victories, the McLaren lines up for one final run against the Ferrari to find out if there is anything left to fight the 765LT with.

Off the line for the fourth and final time, we once again see a similar getaway in favor of the McLaren with the Ferrari falling further behind. In each of the three races where the drivers reacted correctly, the result was a carbon copy. The McLaren completes the quarter mile in around 9.6 seconds each time, compared to the Ferrari’s 9.9 seconds. An impressive showing from the McLaren to beat the tuned monster powering the Ferrari.
