Striving For A Design That Visualizes Performance

The new 2022 Acura NSX Type S is indeed powerful—it is served by a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 hybrid that offers 600 hp of max output and 492 lb-ft of peak torque. But as explained by Satoshi Mizukami, chief engineer and NSX Type S development leader, power is not enough to deliver what Acura calls as Precision Crafted Performance. After all, "only NSX can go beyond NSX," with customers able to feel such performance deep inside.

During the development of the NSX Type S, its developers aimed to enhance its performance beyond the previous generations of NSXs. Nonetheless, Mizukami said they determined that the NSX Type S should have a design that represents such. Their keyword for development was "performance design," which entails striving for a design that is full of content and visualizes performance.

Thus, designers aspired for a design that would make the 2022 NSX Type S look fast even at first glance. Exterior designer Dai Hara highlighted the close link between design and performance, which would be critical in creating a heightened emotional connection between the driver and the NSX Type S. With designers adhering to the Precision Crafted Performance mantra, the NSX Type S was born with aggressive styling—it is as purposeful as it is beautiful.
