Carmakers known for building ultra-fast sports cars have been joining the arena of super SUVs for some performance showdowns. Mercedes-Benz fielded the GLE 63 S 4MATIC+ Coupe as its promptly armed gladiator in this super-arena. But Brabus thought the SUV’s armory wasn't enough, so it converted the AMG-enhanced utility into the new Brabus 900 Rocket Edition.

An SUV Rocket Capable Of Hitting 205 MPH

Brabus converted the already potent AMG GLE 63 S 4MATIC+ Coupe into the fastest and one of the quickest SUVs that could be driven legally on the streets. As claimed, the Brabus 900 Rocket Edition could sprint from nil to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 205 mph (330 km/h).

The performance of AMG’s twin-turbo V8 engine has been boosted from 603 hp and 627 lb-ft of peak torque to an overwhelming 888 hp (900 PS) and 922 lb-ft. The torque value, however, is electronically restricted to 774 lb-ft (1,050 Nm) to protect the driveline.

Larger Displacement, New Turbos And Larger Downpipes

The heart of the Brabus 900 Rocket Edition is a twin-turbo V8 which original displacement of 3,982 cc has been increased to 4,407 cc (243 to 269 cu in). This was achieved by enlarging the cylinder bores to 84 mm (3.3 in). The cardiac operation was completed by installing larger forged pistons and a special precision-balanced billet crankshaft with increased stroke (100 mm or 3.9 in).

Brabus also replaced the two factory turbochargers with its own and installed larger downpipes (2.9 inches), metal catalysts and special particulate filters. The tuner also installed high-pressure pumps with higher delivery rate, an additional boost pump, Brabus’ own stainless sport exhaust system and two titanium/carbon tailpipes (3.5 inches).

On the exterior, the Brabus 900 Rocket Edition benefits from the company’s exposed-carbon aerodynamics-enhancement kit that includes a front spoiler, three-piece rear spoiler and rear diffuser. Also included are air intakes in the radiator grille (for the ram-air intake system) and trims for the side air intakes in the front and rear bumpers.

For a cooler Mercedes conversion, Brabus offers alloy wheels in various designs and diameters (21, 22, 23 or 24 inches), including the 24-in Brabus Monoblock Z Platinum Edition wheels (with exposed-carbon aero-discs) shod with 295/30 ZR 24 front and 355/25 ZR 24 rear rubbers.
