The future of automobiles is shifting to EVs, and Dodge is not taking the backseat on this train. Stellantis, through their YouTube channel, released a teaser of the first Electric muscle car from Dodge. Dodge has a reputation when it comes to muscle cars, and they want to extend the same brutality they’ve had on the streets for over a hundred years into the future. They plan to continue their legacy with an overpowered electric car that will launch in 2024.

“The Dodge brand all, but defines pure American muscle and was born to push the boundaries of horsepower for over a hundred years. At the core of everything we do, you’ll find a foundation of American ingenuity, and performance has been the Dodge purpose,” Tim Kuniskis, Dodge Brand CEO, said in the opening introduction of the teaser.

Dodge Will Sell American eMuscle Cars

Dodge used Stellantis's EV Day to give a sneak peek of what would be the first-ever electric muscle car. The car reveal is nothing more than dark images of what could be a concept car. Still, for those who understand Dodge’s automotive capabilities, it’s a pledge they are already too willing to fulfill.

The world’s most powerful muscle car is the Dodge Challenger, which makes a whopping 807 hp, and is also the world’s fastest quarter-mile muscle car. They also boast of the world’s most powerful production sedan, the Dodge Charger, that makes 797 hp. It is also the world’s fastest sedan.

The video was a bit controversial, and at one point, Tim Kuniskis said, “Half a century ago, Dodge hit full stride when we introduced the Charger and Challenger. They quickly became icons of performance and attitude, today they set the benchmark by embracing ingenuity to push the performance envelope to deliver the most exciting and engaging muscle cars, and that’s why Dodge will not sell electric cars.”

However, he goes ahead to say, “Dodge will sell American eMuscle. So, if a charger can make a Charger quicker, we are in.”

Banking on Millennials

The car in the teaser video still carries some of that retro-inspired muscle figure with a fastback roofline and blunt front-end iconic to the Dodge Charger. It also has some of that futuristic LED bar, with an illuminating emblem at the center.

The whole idea of an electric muscle car might seem counterintuitive. However, Dodge is confident that its target niche, the millennials, who account for a quarter of the U.S population, cherish EVs and have the highest spending power, are attracted by their products.

“We know that electric motors can give us more, and if we know the technology that can give our customers an advantage, we have an obligation to embrace it. Whatever it takes to keep them in the lead,” he said.

Let’s hope Dodge keeps their tagline in 2024. Let’s hope they “Tear up the streets…. Not the planet.”
