As part of the first episode of the Ducati World Premiere 2022 web series, the Italian manufacturer unveiled a new must-see motorcycle, the Multistrada V2. Priced below the Multistrada 950, the new V2 will serve as the entry point into Ducati's ADV line. It borrows considerable tech from the recently launched Multistrada V4, but the V2 retains the signature V-twin engine that has been a defining characteristic of Ducati for decades. The aim is a more refined base model Multistrada that should appeal to anyone looking to make the move to an ADV bike.

A Multistrada That Will Move You

Since its introduction in 2003, the Multistrada has undergone "continuous improvements" (one of Ducati's design mantras) and has developed into a full line. With the addition of the V2 and V2 S (more on that distinction in a minute), the Multistrada line is now comprised of seven separate models (950 S Spoked Wheel, V2, V2 S, V4, V4 S, V4 S Sport, and 1260 Enduro). While that lineup may continue to change and evolve, this week's announcement makes it clear that Ducati wants to compete with some of the less expensive ADV offerings such as the Yamaha Tracer 9 GT, the Triumph Tiger 900 GT, and the Suzuki V-Strom 1000 XT. But never one to rest on their laurels, Ducati has sought ingenuous ways to improve the comfort and ride on the V2.

To achieve these goals, Ducati first focused their attention on the engine. The V2 comes equipped with the latest 937cc Testastretta 11° unit that's also in the latest Monster. The desmodromic engine cranks out 113 hp which should be ample on a Multistrada that also lost 11 lbs. The engine alone lost four lbs over previous examples thanks in large part to an updated clutch. The additional weight lost was a product of applying newer (and lighter) components off of the V4. The ergonomics also receive adjustments by lowering the seat height to accommodate a wider range of riders, as well as moving the peg location to improve the rider foot position. Additionally, the V2 comes with ABS, vehicle hold control (for starts on an incline), traction control, four riding modes (Sport, Touring, Urban, and Enduro), and a Ducati brake light system that flashes the rear light under sudden applications.

The V2 will be available as two different models, the standard V2 and the V2 S. While both bikes come built to handle on and off-road duty, the V2 S will come with features that will enhance its touring capabilities. The V2 S comes with the Ducati Skyhook Suspension EVO semi-active suspension system, cruise control, LED headlights with Ducati Cornering Lights that illuminate inside corners when the bike leans over, a quickshifter, and a 5-inch color TFT dash. Additionally, the V2 S comes offered in two trim levels, Essential and Travel. The Travel trim comes with side bags, heated grips, and a centerstand.

The Multistrada V2 and V2 S will begin appearing in U.S. and Canadian dealerships starting in December at an MSRP of $15,295.
