Credit Czech Republic-based digital automobile designer Rostislav Prokop on his knack for reinterpreting muscle cars and supercars. He has a way of adding a cool factor to his work that doesn't destroy the look of the original, yet manages to bring out more of its essence in his eyes. He did wonders on his recent revamp of a C8 Corvette. His latest rendering of a General Motors Pontiac Trans Am surfaced Sunday on Instagram.

Classic Pontiac Trans Am Gets Modern Interpretation

One thing that's cool about designing a car is that it's cheaper than owning one, while you can sit back and take in the eye candy. And such might be the case with this Trans Am, given that the 2021 version of the car, licensed by GM to a producer dubbed the Trans Am Depot, will set owners back at least $100,000.

The new one, however, is based more on the style of the Camaro SS, rather than the look that made the Trans Am such a hot item in the '70s and '80s. Like most other automakers, more focus on slipstream dynamics than the malevolent boxiness that graced muscle car posters of yesteryear and almost stole the spotlight from Burt Reynolds in the two Smokey and the Bandit movies that helped make the car famous.

For his part, Prokop hasn't accepted the new look in its entirety, opting for the famous square grille look rather than the rounded contours of the latest incarnation. The skirt below the grille looks more like a cowcatcher than the 2021's somewhat hollower look in the front.

The sides are somewhat more concave in appearance with vents for hot engine air to escape. And on the rear, Prokop's taillights are bolder as opposed to the linear design of the real thing.

After less than a day online, Prokop has had more than 6,000 views, with respondents reacting to his Trans Am rendition with an almost unanimous thumbs up. "Way cool," replied one, with "Crazy crazy" seeming to echo those sentiments. Another admirer added "Burt Reynolds would be proud," which might likely be the case, since a few restomods, such as one Twin Turbo version from earlier in June, seem to go for the sharp-edge look as well.
