Looking to add a little adventure to your life? If so, check out the new ADV:Overland exhibit that will be opening on July 3, 2021, at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, California, with support from Harley-Davidson. Curated as a celebration of motoring's spirit of adventure, the exhibit will feature 23 adventure-touring motorcycles and race vehicles dating all the way back to the start of the twentieth century. These rugged machines demonstrate that when the road ends, the real fun begins. And to show humanity's continued desire to explore uncharted territories, the exhibit even includes a couple items from NASA.

Presented by the Petersen Automotive Museum and the Motorcycle Arts Foundation, the ADV:Overland exhibit displays the various means by which people have trekked across this planet and beyond. Given the Petersen's stellar collection and amazing connections within the automotive community, the exhibit features many historically important vehicles. Highlights include the 1966 Triumph T120 that won the Baja 1000; a 2007 KTM 690 Rally Factory ridden and raced around the world by Lyndon Poskitt; a 2019 Harley-Davidson Livewire from the Long Way Up television series; and a 1948 Indian 348 Chief and 1962 Harley-Davidson Panhead Chopper ridden round the world by "RTW Doug."

For those more interested in four-wheeled examples, there is the 1969 Ford Bronco “Big Oly” in which Parnelli Jones dominated Baja racing and the 1969 Honda N600 Baja that was Honda’s first factory race car in the United States. And since adventure vehicles often include more than four wheels, the exhibit includes a model of the Opportunity MER-1 rover, the vehicle that currently holds the record for the most miles clocked on another planet. The exhibit is a thoughtful mix of old, new, and even futuristic vehicles.

With Harley-Davidson as a sponsor and Paul d'Orleans, known online as the Vintagent, the exhibit includes more motorcycles, but these smaller vehicles allow them to display even more ADV examples for visitors to appreciate. In summing up the ambitious plan for the exhibit d'Orleans had this to say, “This exciting, first-ever collection of Round-the-World, overland racing, and off-world overland vehicles is the perfect pandemic escape hatch. Most of these extraordinary machines have never been publicly displayed, and absolutely radiate the spirit of adventure: some even retain their original accessories, 90 years later. These are must-see vehicles, on display in the best motoring museum on the planet.” For anyone interested in seeing this outrageous overland exhibit, it is scheduled to open on July 3, 2021 and will run through March 27, 2022.
