There’s always a first time for everything, and for Porsche, having the $105,000 electric Porsche Taycan go off-road is a definite first. Tommy Mica, through the TFLoffroad YouTube channel, uploaded this epic off-road adventure through the Ophir Pass.

“Now, the reason we are doing this, well, let me ask Calvin. So, I’m with the madman behind this adventure and Calvin, three words: what are we doing? Okay four,” Mica asked.

“Well, number one, we are going off-roading. The idea here is to show, not that the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo is an off-roader. That’s not the idea. The idea here is to kind of let your imagination run wild. What can you do with an electric car, what can you do with an electric Porsche wagon?” Kelvin answered.

According to Calvin, it is possible to do anything with the Taycan within mechanical reason. The spirit of Porsche is to find your limit and push it as hard as you can and have fun doing it.

Porsche Taycan Cross-Turismo Is Only Available In All-Wheel-Drive

“We made it to the top of Ophir Pass in the Cross Turismo, now from the base on up, it’s been pretty durable. So, we have seen a lot of kinds of dirt roads with some holes. But the challenge now is gonna be the shale,” Mica said.

The mountain pass has slides of shale, that were pushing the ground clearance, and articulation of the Taycan as they make their way down into Telluride. From the top, they are almost 11,789 feet above sea level.

The Porsche Taycan is the all-electric Porsche sedan. It’s very well-engineered and handles great. Porsche also made a station wagon version of the Taycan. The Cross Turismo. It sits about an inch higher, with a slightly different design, and a ton of load space at the back.

The Cross-Turismo variation of the Taycan is only available in all-wheel-drive. It comes with a dual motor, one at the front, and one at the back. It uses a lithium-ion battery that comes with an 83-kilowatt hour usable pack that is good for about 220 miles on a single charge.

Not As Good Off-Road As On Tarmac

The Porsche Taycan struggles a lot off-road, because of clearance. Tommy had to be very alert and aware of approach and breakaway to prevent scuffs and scratches.

“I’m trying to take the smoothest, easiest line possible, but it’s doing it. I cannot believe that this is doing it, and it’s doing it with a surprising amount of confidence,” Mica exclaimed.

It’s important to note that, for the Taycans to perform how they did (with a lot of careful driving), Calvin had to fit a different set of wheels and tires. He found an aftermarket supplier that had a wheel size that fit perfectly. Also, they fit in all-terrain tires that matched.

"If you are just using this as your family car, as something to explore dirt-roads in, and something to cruise around in, I think it is plenty quick than you’ll ever need. If you are looking for more sporty driving experience, it’s very quick don’t get me wrong, but I think the 4S with the turbo can be the one for you,” Mica revealed.
