When he is at his best, Yoenis Cespedes is one of the best players in the MLB. Which is why the New York Mets felt comfortable giving him a four-year contract after the 2016 season that was worth a reported $110 million. It's just unfortunate for Mets fans that one of the more recent stories about Cespedes comes from July of this year when it was announced he would be having several surgeries on his heels that will sideline him for 8-10 months.
Which means that while Yoenis Cespedes may love playing baseball more than anything else, he is going to have to spend some time over the next few months finding other things that make him happy, like his amazing car collection. Though it may be extra unfortunate for Cespedes that it is his heels that are causing him issues. Because you can imagine driving around with issues like the ones he has may not be the most comfortable thing in the world.
That doesn't mean you aren't going to find yourself incredibly jealous of his amazing collection though. Because as talented as Yoenis Cespedes is at baseball, Alex Vega is at modifying cars and he has come through for Yoenis Cespedes with some of the most eye-catching vehicles of all-time that includes a Lamborgini that spits fire! Is it ever going to be necessary to have that feature on your car? Heck no, I mean, at least unless you also spend some time moonlighting as Batman. But Cespedes' "fire car" is just one the crazy facts that you're going to learn about when you read about his car collection.
20 He Customized His Jeep To Look Like A Baseball
It is going to clear from this list that one of the biggest passions that Yoenis Cespedes has is for vehicles. But Yoenis Cespedes would never be able to amass the amazing collection of vehicles that he has if he was not also insanely talented at baseball, which as you saw from the introduction has made him a very rich man.
Playing the game he loves is clearly a big treat to him.
Which means that it may only make perfect sense that Yoenis Cespedes would go out and make the decision to customize one of his vehicles to look like a baseball. Let's just hope nobody tries to hit this one!
19 He Has Two Polaris Slingshots
Yoenis Cespedes has may four-wheeled cars that I'm sure he has no problem driving around in, but sometimes he wants to mix it up and go for something with three-wheels. Like his Slingshot that was expertly customized by Alex Vega, including neat seats, a nine-inch screen and just for some extra flash, LED lights that change color, as if people weren't already going to be staring at the car without it! It was reported that Yoenis Cespedes paid around $68,000 for this vehicle, up from the $21,499 that he would have been asked to pay if he had decided to go to a dealership and grab one that lacked any of the cool customizations. (Source: FoxBusiness).
18 He Spent $80,000 Modifying His Lamborghini Aventador
If you were going to go out and buy a Lamborghini, you would probably just be pretty happy to have the vehicle look like it does from the manufacturer. Because let's be straight up here, you are driving around in a Lamborghini!
But that would never be enough for Yoenis Cespedes who decided that he wanted to go ahead and purchase a $300,000 Lamborghini and threw another $80,000 at it in various customizations.
Though, to be fair, the customizations that include the fantastic blue trim are enough to really make this car stand out even more than before. (Source: NYPost).
17 Alex Vega Is The Man Behind The Designs
If you find yourself getting increasingly jealous of Yoenis Cespedes then you may also start becoming jealous of the person responsible for all of these eye-catching cars. Because while Cespedes is amazing at baseball, that talent doesn't exactly translate to a level of skill in the garage. Which means that when he needs something that will really stand out from the competition, it's Alex Vega who Yoenis Cespedes makes sure to call up. Alex Vega has worked with prominent athletes from various sports such as Usain Bolt, Nelson Cruz, Floyd Mayweather and Warren Sapp. Other entertainers have also used him including Lil' Wayne. (Source: BleacherReport).
16 He Often Puts His Number Somewhere On The Car
There are many different things that Yoenis Cespedes must love about being a professional baseball player, even if the fact that he is currently injured may be one of his least favorite things. But one thing that he definitely seems to have a personal attachment to is the number he has on his uniform, #52.
Which means it is perhaps only natural that Yoenis Cespedes also decided to make sure that the #52 has also been featured on some of his past cars.
As if people needed any other indication that it was him driving behind the wheel!
15 He Spent $30,000 Modifying His Ford F250
When Zach Wheeler was asked about Cespedes' slingshot which we had featured in an entry earlier in the list, he joked “I’d run over it with my truck." But maybe Yoenis Cespedes' heard Wheeler's comments and made sure to show off that he also has his fair share of giant vehicles to show off to his teammates. Such as this massive Ford F-250 that Yoenis made sure to have a special lift suspension added to it. That, along with other amazing customizations ended up setting Yoenis Cespedes back another $30,000 on top of what he would have paid for the truck. (Source: NYPost).
14 He Let A Staff Member Drive His Lambo
If you find yourself being jealous of all the amazing vehicles on our list, just imagine how you would feel if you got to see Yoenis Cespedes driving around in them, in person, on a regular basis? Which is definitely the case for any individual that happens to have a job working closely with the Mets, like say someone who works in the kitchen. And when Yoenis Cespedes woke up one morning and realized the kitchen could only make square waffles, he sent a kitchen staff member out on a journey. But not before he handed her the keys to his customized Lamborghini! (Source: MLB).
13 He Spent $250,000 On An Alfa Romero 8C Competizione
There are many vehicles on our list that Yoenis Cespedes was more than comfortable throwing a ton of money into making sure they were unique and stood out from the competition.
But it doesn't seem like he found it to be as necessary to spend a lot modifying his Alfa Romero 8C Competizione.
But maybe that's because for him to be able to drive off the lot with one, he would already be spending around $250,000. Which is at least enough to perhaps make him have some hesitation about spending more on customizations. (Source: NewsDay).
12 He’s Shown Up To Spring Training On A Horse
Yoenis Cespedes clearly has many amazing cars that he must love getting to drive around on a regular basis. But perhaps one of the craziest things that he has done, doesn't involve a car at all. Yoenis Cespedes made headlines back in 2016 when he decided to come to spring training while sitting on top of a horse. He was joined by Noah Syndergaard who made sure to comment on the journey saying, "Overall, I think it went well. I didn't get bucked off, so that was nice." (Source: MLB).
11 His First Car Was A Mercedes GL SUV
Yoenis Cespedes has so many amazing vehicles that he might not even remember which ones he added to his arsenal this past month, much less this past year! But there is no question that Yoenis Cespedes is always going to remember what the first car he ever bought was, as he left the lot driving a Mercedes GL SUV which may not be as fancy as some of his cars, but is still very nice. Though Alex Vega who is responsible for some of the most extreme customizations in the world of cars, including Yoenis Cespedes' did sass him calling it "a soccer mom car."
10 He’s Spent Over $1 Million Customizing His Cars
No matter how many examples are in this list, it is still probably going to come as a shock that someone would be willing to invest so much money into his cars. In fact, if you looked at the total amount that Yoenis Cespedes has put into his vehicle collection, the sum would come out to being over $1 million!
That's hardly going to make a dent in the bank account of Yoenis Cespedes, but it is still a pretty baffling number to try and get one's head around.
I suppose we also know what he is going to splurge on if he ever finds himself signing another big MLB contract. (Source: MLB)
9 His Lamborghini Shoots Fire Out The Back
No, you're not reading that title incorrectly. When Yoenis Cespedes decided to get some improvements made to his Lamborghini, he wanted to do something that I'm sure would help him stand out from the pack. And what would do that quite like having the back of his Lamborghini shoot fire as if it was one of Daenerys Targaryen's dragons! Is this a practical decision to make for your car? No. But maybe it was just one of those ideas that once it took hold there was no way he was going to be able to say no. (Source: MLB).
8 He Has Lied About His Collection
Now I suppose it is fair to say that it's possible Yoenis Cespedes was not lying when he said to a reporter, “I don’t have no more cars. That’s it," after he had made waves with journalists with the various cars he had brought to Spring Training. Yet it was only the next day that Yoenis Cespedes showed up in his Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione; which if you remember from another entry was worth $250,000. So either he bought the car after practice or somehow forgot about it. I don't know what's better! (Source: NYMag).
7 He Drove A Different Car Every Day For Almost A Week
As you continue to get deeper into this list, you have definitely started to get a general idea of all the amazing vehicles that Yoenis Cespedes has at his disposal. But nothing perhaps "put Yoenis Cespedes on the map" quite like what he was able to pull off back in 2016. Because it was then that Yoenis Cespedes decided to pull up to Spring Training while driving a different car for 6 straight days.
Talk about finding a fun way to flaunt wealth to teammates!
6 He Spent $50,000 Modifying a Mercedes-Benz GLE63 For 2017
Yoenis Cespedes may have started getting attention for his cars in 2016, but that definitely does not mean he was going to stop trying to impress people. When Yoenis Cespedes pulled up to Spring Training in 2017, he did so in a Mercedes-Benz GLE63 that is already valued at being worth $110,000 off the lot. But you had to know he wasn't going to stop there, as Yoenis Cespedes and Alex Vega combined to put another $50,000 worth of modifications into the car. Cespedes didn't upload any high-quality photos of this car, but you can use your imagination and other cars on this list to get an idea as to how awesome it must have looked. (Source: TMZ).
5 He's Selling His Fire Breathing Car
Another entry on our list was sure to leave you astonished as I talked to you about the Lamborghini that Yoenis Cespedes has that happened to have the unique feature of breathing fire.
But Yoenis Cespedes may not be in possession of the car anymore, having put the car up for sale back in 2016.
When asked why, Alex Vega who worked on the car, offered some potential insight into what Yoenis was thinking “It’s a tough car to own in New York City. The streets of New York are not really good. The quality of the streets is a problem. And then there’s the space in the city. He doesn’t want it to get hit.” (Source: NYPost).
4 Former Manager Terry Collins Digs It
Terry Collins spent the last few years of his life managing the New York Mets, including Yoenis Cespedes. And while some managers may roll their eyes at how some of their younger players spend their money, Terry Collins at least had some words of praise for Yoenis Cespedes when he was asked his opinion on Yoenis Cespedes' car collection, “Guys love toys. Some people like technology stuff, he likes cars. It’s cool, huh?” Though I don't know if Terry Collins would ever find himself jealous enough of Yoenis Cespedes' collection to go out and buy his own fancy car! (Source: NYPost).
3 Why He Loves Cars So Much
It is definitely going to be easy to read this list and to become jealous of the amazing vehicles that Yoenis Cespedes has in his arsenal. But you may find yourself feeling a lot less jealous after you learn about why Yoenis Cespedes has such a passion for vehicles. While living in Cuba, the main way Yoenis Cespedes got around was by walking and by using a bicycle, which is something he talked about in a past interview saying “After I got here I saw the possibilities that I can have I want, so I worked hard for it” (Source: NorthJersey).
2 He Might Not Have The Craziest Collection
Nothing on this list may make you more shocked that even with all the tremendous cars that Yoenis Cespedes owns that he probably still doesn't have the best car collection in the MLB.
Alex Vega, who we now know a little more about, has worked extensively with Hanley Ramirez.
As of June 2017 had already made 32 vehicles for him over the course of only 5 years. I'm sure Alex is more than happy to have stars continue to come and spend exuberant amounts of money on cars they must only drive a handful of times. (Source: ESPN).
1 What His Favourite One Is
How it is even possible that Yoenis Cespedes has a favorite car on this list when they are all so amazing? But if you had to place your bets on what car he loves the most, it would have to be his Jeep. At least as far as journalist Anthony DiComo is aware, and considering he's a beat reporter for the Mets, he's a good guy to trust. When tweeting about Yoenis' collection back in 2016, he stated "Friday is Jeep Day and every day is Swag Day. Yoenis Cespedes says this is his favorite car yet," in reference to Yoenis' Jeep. Which one is yours?" (Source: ScoopNest).
