AC Schnitzer is well-known for its BMW performance upgrades. They design various custom components and develop their technology for not just BMWs, but also Jaguars, Land Rovers, and Toyotas as well. What’s more, they ensure everything they produce is ready for everyday use as well. For the last few years, they have produced police car lookalikes to show that tuning a car can be perfectly safe and now, 2021 will see their latest creation. Enter, the BMW 850i Police Car by AC Schnitzer.

The 8 Series Blueprint

The M850i is already an amazing performance machine on its own that’s fit for drag races, so getting an additional boost is mind-boggling. According to its website, German tuner AC Schnitzer was able to fund the build exclusively with sponsors’ help. The build is part of a campaign dubbed “TUNE IT! SAFE!” that’s intended to promote--as the name clearly spells out--safe vehicle tuning. The car features an eye-catching custom body kit on top of its performance upgrades.

So, what are these upgrades? One of the most noteworthy are its two exhaust flaps and two “Carbon Sport” tailpipes, which AC Schnitzer offers optional warranty coverage for. If the police livery doesn’t alarm criminals, then the exhaust system’s impressive sounds will do the trick. In addition, the car is lowered thanks to a suspension spring kit.

But the upgrade’s highlight has to be what the company has done to the car's engine. The 8 Series in this specification comes with a twin-turbo, 4.4-liter V8 engine as standard, generating around 523 hp. And bare in mind the 8 Series M850i xDrive has had special editions already, yet AC Schnitzer has given it an upgrade and it now pumps out an eye-watering 612 hp—a near 100 hp increase from the standard.

The end result of this build is an impressively built custom cop car that should paint tuning in a more positive light, which is creatively exemplified in the form of this law-abiding cop car.
