General Aladeen is Sacha Cohen's fictional character in the movie, ‘The Dictator’ that was released in 2012. It is a political satire comedy about a dictator who ruled over Wadiya, a fictional city. The dictator was wildly flamboyant and one of his excesses revolved around his choice of transport – a convoy of 3 SUVs. However, these were no ordinary SUVs. The Dartz Prombron behemoth was gold plated and carried enough armor to withstand .50 caliber rounds and even Rocket Propelled Grenades.

As expected, the interior of the car was also elegantly decked out to the General’s taste. The result was a vehicle that would not be out of place in any Head of State’s convoy (minus the shiny gold plating of course). Here then, are some facts you probably did not know about the insane Dartz Prombron.

10 The Dartz Prombron Comes in Heavy, Pricewise

The armored SUVs did not come cheap although that’s to be expected considering the fact that Dartz only plays in a niche market. The SUVs cost anything from $500,000 to $750,000 when they were made available for sale.

That sum gets you the bonkers armor protection and an 8-camera system installed all around the car. The interior is a lavishly laid out space fit for a king. Reclining massage seats, champagne bottle chillers, and wine racks come as standard in addition to a host of customizable options, for the right price of course.

After the movie, the 3 chintzy trucks used by the dictator and his bodyguards were offered for sale to anyone who wanted to experience the SUV’s extremes. That was not all; Dartz, the carmaker planned to build an additional 7 Prombron Kombats.

The SUVs would all receive the full ‘Aladeen’ treatment that included the fictitious Wadiya’s symbols, license plate and of course, that blinding gold paint. It is not known though if the company found enough customers eccentric enough to place orders for the limited-edition Prombron SUVs.

8 Backed By Rich History

The Prombron is based on the Kombat T-98 that holds the title for the oldest armored car brand in the world. The first one was produced over a century ago, in 1912. The car was famously used by Lenin, the Head of the Russian Government, to deliver his speech in 1917 upon his return to Russia from exile.

The armored car was the vehicle of choice for the influential Russian Czars at the time. According to reports, Prince Albert of Monaco also had a test-drive in one during the 2012 Top Marques Monaco event held in the sovereign state.

The privately-held company is well known for its extreme and sometimes controversial creations. They are responsible for the production of Russo-Baltique, a drink that was once the most expensive vodka in the world at $1.3 million per bottle.

At one point, the carmaker also offered whale penis foreskin as an exclusive leather option for one of its cars, a decision that was later dropped amid backlash from the public. It makes sense then that they were the company of choice to supply nutty General Aladeen with his armored trucks.

6 That Armor Plating Is No Joke

The Dartz Prombron might be a hilarious oddity to some people but there’s nothing funny about its over-the-top armored protection. Dartz covered the truck with an armor plating made from layers of ceramic, Kevlar and steel. It can survive a direct hit from a Rocket Propelled Grenade.

The story is not much different with the windows which are anodized and up to 3 inches thick. The company’s clientele are mostly made up of uber-wealthy people who would be grateful for this type of protection.

This outlandish SUV is not the only extreme creation conceived by the designers at Dartz Automobile company. In fact, the Dartz Prombron was offered in over 10 distinct models. The Monaco Red Diamond Edition is arguably the most extreme of the lot; a $1.5 million monstrosity, unveiled in 2009, with white gold dashboard gauges coated in precious stones.

The movie car was equipped with a GM-sourced 8.1-liter V8 engine tuned to generate 450hp and 627 pound-feet of torque. For a car as brazen as the Dartz Prombron ‘Aladeen’ Edition, one would have expected something more potent.

The Prombron’s engine is mated to a special 6-speed manual transmission purpose-built for use in heavy-duty vehicles. No matter, the armored SUV weighing in at about 4,500kg, will be mightily sluggish on the road. Good thing then that Dartz planned to use AMG-derived engines for the other Prombrons.

The Dartz Prombron is a massive vehicle; General Aladeen would have it no other way. The armored SUV stretches for almost 20 feet and is 7.5 feet wide. Its tallest point is 8 feet above ground rounding off an imposing profile. Driving this vehicle on a busy street is not a task for the faint-hearted.

Those impressive physical dimensions does have an advantage though; there’s room for 6 people at the back so you can host a small party in there while the driver figures out how best to maneuver the vehicle around obstacles in its path.

In May, 2012, the world premiere of the Dictator movie took place in London. What better way for Leo Yankelovich, Dartz founder and owner, to attend the event than in a Dartz Prombron. Even more impressive is the fact that the car was driven about 1,500miles from Latvia to London.

Top Gear motoring journalists offered to drive the last 75-mile leg of the trip and it turned out to be a memorable experience that even included a photoshoot with Playboy models!

In June, 2020, the Dartz Founder revealed an interesting new direction for the company when he made public details of the company’s latest creation. Yes, it will be an SUV but one that the company has never built before. The SUV will be utilizing an all-electric powertrain and will be built in partnership with Chinese design partners.

However, don’t expect the company to scale back its excesses with this one and a gold-plated, fully armored SUV like the Prombron ‘Aladeen’ Edition might just be in the works, only this time it will be powered by electricity instead of gasoline.
