If all you're really after from a motorcycle is good looks, a punchy motor, and some half-decent ergonomics, you can go down multiple routes. There are cruisers to consider, a few well-thought-out dual sports, and possibly even some sport bikes. That said, getting the whole package from those segments is hard.

The naked motorcycle segment isn't one lacking in options. And with the demand seemingly not waning in the least, manufacturers are populating this segment even further. With that in mind, we have updated this list to include a few more popular entries of affordable naked motorcycles available currently.

The simple answer is naked motorcycles. They're not too sporty and aren't down on performance; they don't cost the earth, either, and are rather easy to maintain in the long run, aside from being affordable, too. And they're easy to ride as well. Sounds ideal? This list brings together 13 such examples of affordable naked motorcycles from a variety of manufacturers like Suzuki, Triumph, Honda, Aprilia, and even Ducati, among others. They all make exceptionally capable motorcycles for this segment and are queuing to get your attention.

How we got our model selections: To compile this list, HotCars drew up all the major manufacturers' motorcycles in the middleweight naked segment and narrowed the list from there. Priority was given to affordability in this case, which is why none of the entries in this list exceed the $10,000 mark (except the Aprilia Tuono, which overshoots the mark by a few hundred dollars). In addition, while performance wasn't a deciding factor, every motorcycle's specifications have nonetheless been listed. Also, the entries on this list include motorcycles currently in production and those that have been discontinued but can readily be found in the used market. Lastly, the entries have been organized in increasing order of their value.

13 Suzuki 1200 Bandit

Used Price Range: $3,000-$4,500

The Bandit has always flown under the radar, and for good reason, as it is not for everyone and is in no way approachable. It is affordable, though, and it is a lot of fun. In a straight line, that is. It has a very rudimentary chassis but a very powerful inline 4-cylinder engine that will blast you along the highway at any speed you see fit for as long as you can handle it.

12 Triumph Speed Triple

Used Price Range: $3,500-$7,000

When they launched the Triumph 1050 in the mid-2000s, the bike changed how pretty much everyone looked at Triumph as a brand. The bike bridged the gap for them as a brand, going from niche to large-scale manufacturer in the space of a few short years and one model. It really is that good, but like the Bandit, it's not exactly approachable.

11 Aprilia Shiver 750

Used Price Range: $4,200-$5,000

The more recent 900 was a decidedly half-hearted effort and won’t hold a candle to the bike that effectively replaced it, the Tuono 660. The older bikes are now a lot more affordable, running costs are not all that bad either, and you still get all that wonderful V-twin torque, making the Aprilia Shiver 750 quite a bargain.

10 Ducati Monster 900

Used Price Range: $5,000-$6,500

For the most part, there is no such thing as an affordable Ducati, but this might be the exception to that rule, at least for now. So many were sold that they are in no danger of becoming rare, parts are plentiful, and for the most part, these Ducatis were pretty reliable (relatively speaking).

It is about as affordable as a Ducati will get. Naturally, there are a few quirks, but the rewards most certainly make up for them.

9 KTM Duke 390

Starting MSRP: $5,899

People bang on about the Duke being a beginner's bike all the time, but if this is your first bike, we suspect you might have a skewed view of what motorcycles are really like.

The Duke 390 really is an incredibly good bike for its price. Not only is it incredible value for money, but in terms of real-world performance, it has you covered right up to highway speed, where pretty much any naked bike tails off as wind buffeting becomes a real issue.

8 Yamaha MT-07

Starting MSRP: $8,199

In many ways, the MT-07 is the least value-oriented on this list, with a fairly rudimentary chassis and suspension, but then there is that engine. The CP2 engine is an absolute gem.

It's one of the best, if not the best, parallel twins on the market right now. So it is pretty easy to see why Yamaha has put it in just about every class of motorcycle under the sun.

7 Suzuki GSX-S750

Starting MSRP: $8,549

Why is a motorcycle that's technically been updated being featured here? Well, that's because the Suzuki GSX-S750, still listed on the Japanese manufacturer's site, is very much a worthy candidate to this day.

It features a punchy motor, a refined chassis, and comfortable ergonomics. This naked from Suzuki ticks almost all possible boxes, and is something that should definitely be on your list if you want a no-nonsense naked that's also got a fun side.

6 Triumph Trident 660

Starting MSRP: $8,595

Coming in at under $9,000 new is pretty much unheard of for a European motorcycle, so the Trident is a bit of a game changer. Many publications will refer to this as a beginner's bike, but it most certainly is not.

The Trident 660 can be a bike you learn how to ride on, especially if you choose a restricted power version, but this is a bike anyone could buy and live with for the rest of their life and never get bored with it.

5 Honda CB650R

Starting MSRP: $9,399

Packaging really can make a big difference. The sportbike version of the CB feels a bit limp, but that is mostly because it gets (unfairly) compared to the CBR600RR supersport.

The CB650R, the naked version, just works that much better. Unlike the Kawasaki, its retro-inspired looks make a huge difference.

4 BMW F 900 R

If you've been familiar with the F 800 R, the new BMW F 900 R should ring a bell, and that's no bad thing. This BMW naked is everything you'd expect from a BMW Motorrad motorcycle: it's refined, an able-handler, has good ergonomics, and makes a good amount of power and torque.

It also features adjustable suspension, ABS, a TFT display, riding modes, adaptive headlights, and gear-shift assist. For a shade under $10,000, the F 900 R comes across as quite the value proposition, then.

3 Kawasaki Z650RS

Starting MSRP: $9,599

Both the Ninja 650 and Z650 are spectacularly underwhelming, with a huge emphasis on their affordability/power balance. For just a little more, you can have incredible-looking retro bikes like the Kawasaki Z650RS. The affordability/power balance is still there, but they more than make up for it in terms of aesthetics.

2 Kawasaki Z900

Starting MSRP: $9,899

There's so much to like about the Kawasaki Z900. It might live in the shadow of some of its flashier rivals, but the Japanese naked put its point across firmly, if a little subtly.

It's a good looker, makes adequate power and torque, can be ridden hard, and will make its way to its 150+ mph top speed with unnerving ease, given the right road. For just a touch under $10,000, you're getting a lot of motorcycle from the Z900, and that's not even counting Kawasaki's famed reliability.

Value is subjective with bikes like the Aprilia Tuono 660, which most certainly are less affordable but are worth it in every way. Performance-wise, they punch above their weight class.

Technology-wise, they are unmatched, and in style, well, we think they are in a class of their own when it comes to that. You really get what you pay for with the Tuono 660.
