The Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione is set to return, and we’ve got new details on the upcoming Italian supercar.

We got our first look at the reborn 8C at the end of last May during FCA’s annual investors' conference. Fiat Chrysler laid out a 5-year plan for all their brands, including the much-beloved Italian marque Alfa Romeo.

The big news there was the revival of the 8C and GTV sports cars. The GTV was a little more on the grand touring side, while the 8C was more of a purebred supercar.

FCA was willing to divulge few details and even few visuals of their upcoming car, but what they did reveal was quite interesting: a carbon fiber monocoque chassis, a twin-turbo mid-engined hybrid setup, 700+ horsepower, and a 0-62 mph time of less than three seconds.

But we didn’t know just how many more horses that twin-turbo hybrid would make, leading us to gesticulate wildly in frustration. Now, thankfully, we can put our outrage to rest with a new rumor from CAR Magazine.

According to inside sources, the 8C will share the same 2.9-L twin-turbo V6 engine from Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio. On the fast sedan and SUV, that engine puts out about 505 hp, but on the 8C that figure is said to balloon to close to 600.

On the front axle, the 8C will have either one or two electric motors that produce a combined 201 hp. This means that the total combined power of both motors will be close to the 800 pony mark.

It also means that the car will be all-wheel drive thanks to the combustion engine driving the rear axle and the front axle getting power from the electric motors. Torque vectoring and some fancy launch control systems would give the 8C fantastic off-the-line performance.

The only problem here is that it likely won’t be cheap. The last car was around the $300,000 mark, and we don’t expect the new 8C to be any less than that.

Expect the new 8C to arrive sometime in 2021.
