The Subaru Ascent receives styling updates for 2023, along with new safety and in-vehicle technologies included as well. There's even a new Onyx Edition trim that features new accents on the inside, and out. Plus, there's an option package too. Subaru continues to churn out a blend of exciting cars and comfortable ones. The 2023 Subaru Ascent is a bit of both, making it a relatively interesting proposition.

Add all the latest safety and in-vehicle tech into the mix, and you've got yourself a do-it-all SUV. The Ascent is being produced at the Subaru factory in Indiana, along with the rest of Subaru's range, like the 2023 Outback, Legacy, and the Impreza. The 2023 Subaru Ascent will be sold in five variants: Base, Premium, Onyx Edition, Limited, and Touring. Expect the SUV to reach dealerships this Fall.

The new Subaru Ascent looks bolder and has interesting details. It looks sharper too, and the grille is more evident than ever. The LED headlights are new, and the front bumper cover looks sportier. There are these new, lower-edge air ducts to enhance aerodynamic flow under the car as well. Move to the rear, and you'll see C-shaped tail lights that give it a refreshing look.

The top-end Touring variant gets all the features the 'Limited' variant does but gets additional exterior touches like a high-gloss black grille, satin chrome power-folding outer rear-view mirrors with turn signals and chrome door handles. On the Limited variant, you get 20-inch, aluminum-alloy finished wheels.

The new Ascent comes with a driver assist technology that works much better than before. These enhancements have been carried out because of the updated control software, a wider field of view, and an added electric booster. A wide-angle mono camera comes standard, along with a dual-camera EyeSight system. The added camera recognizes pedestrians and bicycles.

The 'EyeSight' feature warns the driver and applies brakes to avoid a collision. On models that get Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, 'EyeSigh't includes Automatic Emergency Steering. It works in sync with the Pre-Collision Braking System, helping it steer away to avoid colliding into people at speeds slower than 50mph.

The standard 2023 Ascent comes packed with features like tri-zone front and rear automatic climate control, multi-function display, automatic power door locks, a security system with an engine immobilizer, 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, and raised roof rails, and a rear vision camera with a washer, among other things.

The list goes on with a leather-wrapped steering, body-colored side mirrors that are also heated, a windshield wiper de-icer, an 8-way power driver seat, and rear-window privacy glass, all available on the Premium variant. The top-of-the-line Touring adds more to what already reads like a restaurant's menu card.

It gets the Subaru Starlink 11.6-inch Multimedia Navigation system, power moonroof, rain-sensing wipers, a 180-degree front-view camera, a Harman Kardon QuantumLogic surround system with the new 'Cabin Connect', and a surround-view monitor system.

Some in-vehicle technology includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 11.6-inch high-resolution touchscreen with a combination meter integration, and improved on-screen controls for the climate control, X-Mode, audio, and other features. The standard features include the Valet Mode, Bluetooth with hands-free phone and audio streaming connectivity, over-the-air updates, and lots more.

The navigation system also gets what3words on the 2023 model: a location tech that allows the driver to communicate the exact locations, using simple words. All Ascent variants include steering responsive LED headlights with high beam assist, and a very common but necessary seat belt reminder.

On the Limited variant, the Ascent has leather-trimmed upholstery, heated second-row seating, a heated steering wheel, and a choice between having either a regular second-row bench or captain chairs, surprisingly, at no extra cost. The 12-way powered driver seat gets good lumbar support and a bottom extension of the seat cushion. Front passengers have a 4-way powered seat, and the second row gets retractable sunshades.

The one to go for though is the Touring variant in this case because it gets a woodgrain-pattern matte finish accent, and customers can choose from Slate Black or Java Brown perforated leather upholstery. This specific variant also features three-mode ventilated driver and front passenger seats.

The 2023 Subaru Ascent is powered by a 2.4-liter, turbocharged Subaru Boxer engine that makes 260hp. Paired to the engine is a high-torque, Lineartronic CVT gearbox that mimics features of an eight-speed gearbox plus paddle-shifters behind the steering for a bit more enthusiasm. The powertrain comes with a standard Trailer Stability Assist system as well, since a lot of people in the United States and Canada like towing boats, tiny caravans, and motorcycles around.

The 2023 Subaru Ascent Is A Promising Product

The biggest Subaru on sale today also happens to be a well-rounded three-row SUV. It sure manages to make a solid cause in a segment where the Kia Telluride, its twin - the Hyundai Palisade, and the Mazda CX-9 offer better features. But Subaru edges it when it comes to being all-rounded.

Its boxer motor provides enough punch to bring a smile to your face, and the interior is spacious enough for up to eight occupants. And now, with new standard technology and safety features for 2023, the Subaru needn't stay at the end of the line. We expect the 2023 Subaru Ascent to start with an MSRP of $33,100.
