The new Nissan Z broke cover as the latest evolution of the Z nameplate. Combining classic design and modern technology, the new Z offers the thrill of a true sports car. But just as deliveries are starting, Nissan is fielding the Z as a safety car in the Super GT race series in Japan.

Nissan Z Ensuring Safety On Track

Nissan Motor and Nissan Motorsports & Customizing (NMC) will hand over the Nissan Z safety car to GT Association, operator of the Super GT race series, on May 29, 2022. This is just in time for the Z to commence its safety car duties at the third round of the 2022 season at the Suzuka Circuit.

As a safety car, the Nissan Z will perform vital duties, including pre-race track inspections for obstacles as well as leading race cars when accidents occur.

Interestingly, there is another Z in the Super GT race series. The Nissan Z GT500 is one of the competing race cars in the series. It replaced the GT-R as Nissan’s Super GT challenger, sporting a high-power engine and a massive aero pack. With the Z serving as a racer and a safety car, Nissan is hoping to broaden the car’s fan base.
