The new Porsche Taycan 4S, a variant of the all-new Taycan line-up, has been designed to follow the Turbo and Turbo S models in terms of performance yet it exceeds both in maximum range.

The Taycan 4S, which features the same dual-motor drivetrain layout as the turbo models, reaches only 523bhp and delivers 0 to 62mph in 4.0 seconds with a top speed of 155mph. With a smaller battery than the other two models — a 79.2kWh cell hidden beneath the floor — the 4S has a maximum range of 252 miles as recorded under WLTP.

The Taycan 4S, however, can also be optioned with the 93.4kWh battery from the Turbo and Turbo S, which will enable 287 miles on a single charge — the longest range of the Taycan line-up. The 79.2kWh battery can recharge at a maximum of 225kW, with 270kW maximum supplied with the larger battery.

The Taycan 4S, which Porsche is referring to it as the “entry-level model in the series,” has a simpler design that its turbo counterparts. The front and rear aprons are modified, and it features 19-inch wheels. Porsche Dynamic System Plus LED headlights are standard and the interior includes a 10.9-inch central infotainment screen and partial leather upholstery as standard. The 4S is also equipped with Porsche 4D Chassis Control and includes adaptive air suspension by default, with PASM electronic damper control.

In 2017, Porsche mentioned wanting to sell an electric car for under $100,000, and although the Taycan 4S is a bit over, it is much closer to the automaker’s goal than the $150,900 Taycan Turbo. Porsche has stated that all Taycan 4S buyers will get 30-minute charging at Electrify America fast chargers free for three years, as well as free fast charging at Porsche dealers around the country. Porsche, like Audi, has also partnered with Amazon to make the process of getting a home charger installed much easier.
