When Bugatti announced the impending arrival of the PUR Sport version of its Chiron hypercar, it put an emphasis on its ability to handle better than the average Bugatti. Virtually a “user-friendly” Chiron, the PUR Sport is a deviation from the French company's constant flirtation with achieving the fastest straight line speed.

Also known for their penchant for straight line speed is the Daily Driven Exotics (DDE) crew. While some hypercar owners parade their car from show to show, the DDE team is no stranger to chucking multi-million dollar vehicles around most of the western United States.

Having been present for multiple “unboxing” of rare and expensive Bugattis, Damon had a client inform them he'd be receiving the PUR Sport that day, allowing DDE to capture the moment it touches down. Later on, Damon and his head engineer, Dean, ponder what they need in order to get the Lamborghini Diablo to have an F1-like high pitch whine, like the Murciélago.

World's Most Expensive Unboxing

Boasting the world's first W16 engine, the PUR Sport version of the Chiron sees its RPMs increase by an additional 200 to a total of 6,900 RPM. In an effort to adhere to the “handling oriented” mantra, Bugatti revised the majority of the transmission to achieve a closer gear-ratio that benefits the power band. At 100 lbs lighter than the standard Chiron, the Bugatti reduced its fighting weight by way of a 3D-printed titanium exhaust, rear spoiler, and extensive use of Alcantara to lighten the weight of the interior.

So, when the PUR Sport begins its descent, the “aero blades” that force air down the side of the vehicle and into the rear diffuser are on full display. Sitting on a noticeably altered wheel camber, the Chiron now features stiffer springs at the front and rear that aid handling in and out of corners.

After the unveiling is over and the adrenaline of witnessing a $4.5 million car wears off, we join Damon and Dean at the DDE office as they reveal their intentions to alter the sound of the V12 Lamborghini Diablo. Having always yearned for the F1-like sound the Murciélago makes and hell-bent on figuring out a way to get his Diablo's V12 to be the “first Diablo to sound like a Murcie”, according to Damon, he enlists Dean as his point of contact in figuring out what's required.

After a history lesson in Lamborghini engine firing order — something that plays a major role in the sound of an engine — the DDE crew calls it a day after a cruise down the Huntington Beach Pier.
