Iso Automotoveicoli S.p.A. was an Italian automobile and motorcycle manufacturer responsible for some wild performance motorcycles and "bubble" cars from the 1940's to the 70's. They also tried their hand at building the Rivolta touring car to match the performance of the Fiat 2300. Produced between 1962 and 1970, she sported some impressive features along with the drivetrain of a Chevrolet Corvette. The present example was taken a step further and treated to a full restoration and customization with a swapped 505 HP LS7 engine under the hood. Let's take a look.

The Iso Rivolta

Richard Griot of Griot's Garage had this 1968 Iso Rivolta that was in need of a full restoration. While Richard didn't want to change the beautiful lines of the Italo-American hybrid, he wasn't interested in a stock restoration. He wanted something with a little more power and poise. So he commissioned J&L Fabricating out of Washington state to handle the build. The car was stripped down to bare metal, fixed of all its defects and nipped, shaved, and tucked ever so subtly to accentuate the original look.

Then they got to work under the hood jettisoning the original 327 v-8 mill in place of a Chevy LS7 engine cranking out 505 hp. The Chevy engine is mated to a Tremec T-56 Magnum 6-speed unit and power is transmitted through a custom driveshaft to a modern Camaro differential with IRS. In order for it to stop, handle and feel like a modern car J&L built the Rivolta up on an Art Morrison chassis with Penske shocks. Wilwood disc brakes are all around along with vintage looking 17" wheels.

Bellissimo!

The final look is much more pronounced and purposeful than the original and it has the power and balance to run with any modern sports car. The video above details the build and the final result. It look's great, doesn't it? Well, it should because it took 2nd place at the 2019 SEMA Build off! Buckle up.
