Wheeler Dealer's restoration expert Ant Anstead has taken his off season project up a step and visited the Alfa Romeo party at Monterey Car Week to see if he can secure his classic car a big debut. Anstead took the time between seasons of Wheeler Dealers to scratch build a tribute to the legendary Alfa Romeo 158 GP car. The build is being documented on YouTube as Ant Anstead Master Mechanic.

Anyone with a half finished project in their garage knows the Christmas like joy of a new parts delivery. For Anstead, the present under the mailbox tree was a new set of wire knock off wheels to replace the stamped wheels that came with the MG TD frame that is serving as the starting point for his project. Anstead's project is a tribute, so rather than the dodgy 1930s brakes he has opted for modern drilled and ventilated brakes.

Monterey Car Week is the unofficial name of the various events that have sprouted up around the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion or 'Monterey Historics' as it's more casually referred to. The races take place from Friday to Sunday, but car events from Conquors d'elegance to road rallies take place in the week leading up to the races, including brand parties.

Setting Up a Debut

Ant was invited to the Alfa Romeo event during Monterey Car Week, but arrived with an agenda, to secure a debut for his Alfa GP premier. Anstead met with Motor Trend publisher Eric Schwab to secure a debut for Anstead's special at the American F1 stop at the Circuit of the Americas. He was also able to chat with Ralph Giles, head of design for Fiat Chrysler about the state of Alfa Romeo design in the modern era. The entire season of Ant Anstead Master Mechanic is streaming on Motor Trend.
